JUST WATCHED THE MICE RUN AT EACHOTHER. THEY R FIGHTING ON MY FLOOR OVER FOOD
JUST WATCHED THE MOUSE SQUEEZE ITSELF UNDER THE GAP OF MY DOOR i must say i am gaining respect for it. some might even say fondness
On today's episode of the Mouse Saga: no more mouse sounds for a long time, but had a mouse-related nightmare and when i went to clean out my stove today discovered mouse droppings inside of it
Wish to part from this mortal coil
Will chop onions and place inside of stove instead
Have you considered plaster? It's a cheap and easy fix and it would last for a while. My siblings put a hole in the wall, and plaster was out go to fix
Again, for the time being, I have a working solution. I have not considered plaster because my basic thought process was, “Oh. Maintenance will be able to do something” and when that didn’t pan out, I let it go, because my solution has been working. Is it ideal? No. Do I have time for home renovation, even something supposedly easy? Not at the moment, no. But I’m okay with it. Really.
If I end up having time this summer, maybe I’ll do some research and fix it then, but it’s not important enough to me to take on another thing to stress me out just now.

there’s probably a flaw in my thinking because i’m not very diy-handy, but maybe some of that expanding sealant foam? maybe in connection with the plastic or 2x4 plans
At the very top of the crack, where it's narrowest, I bet it would work. I'm not so sure about further down. I think I'd have to custom cut wood for that because it's so wide at the widest part. It's not something I'll probably get to until summer break, though. For the time being, the solution is holding up.

holy hell. that's not a crack, that's a crevasse
I was thinking more along the lines of an abyss. It’s okay. My faithful feline will protect me from the darkness.

nuke it. Nuke the who damn thing. All the nukes.
That would require state secrets that I most certainly do not have in my possession. Also, pretty sure the leasing company would frown on that.
You can buy sheets of plastic meant to line a shower. They're thick and durable and you could easily put them over the crack.
I’ve thought about ways to handle it, but I don’t think plastic would be a great long-term solution. Mice can chew through most plastics, and even with a staple gun (which I don’t have), I don’t think I could staple it down tightly enough that they couldn’t find a way through. My dad keeps insisting a 2x4 would do the job, but he hasn’t seen the thing in person, and I don’t know how I’d even go about securing that. Maintenance came by and took a look and he basically said short of renovating the whole closet, there’s not much that can be done. Again, the mice have not come through since I moved the catbox and scented the whole area with peppermint, so that’s really all I need. I’ll just keep on top of the cleaning and the peppermint, because that seems to have done the trick.
At long last I have uploaded a picture of the crack from which the mice emerged. This is inside my pantry in the wall abutting the apartment next to mine. The crack goes all the way to the ceiling. All of those cotton balls are loaded down with peppermint oil. I've not seen or heard the mice since I came back from Christmas, except for that one time with the cat. I suspect they are still alive, but so long as those cotton balls go undisturbed, I feel relatively OK about things.
