Mouse Capades
Shoutout to literally the tiniest mouse I have ever seen in my life.
Tonight, my mom made the unfortunate mistake of letting the cat in while he had a field mouse in his mouth—she claims she didn’t see it. So, naturally, he drops the mouse inside, and it immediately comes to life and starts scurrying around. It made it all the way to the pantry, where there’s a little 1″ space above the baseboard, leading to a 3″ tall space the length of the pantry (but not going into it). My parents’ bright idea? Boarding up the gap and letting the thing starve to death.
The space was large enough that a long, narrow object could be inserted, and we could possibly have shooed the mouse out that way. We could also have just ripped the baseboard off—it isn’t being held by much—and let the cat catch it, then trap it and release it. But they didn’t like my ideas. I helped nail the board on, but I wasn’t happy about it. And when the hallway starts to smell, I’ll tell them I told them so.
THE MOUSE IS LOOSE! ...This pleases me. Mostly.
I think my parents have pretty much given up for the night. My dad went out and bought some sort of mouse “motel” and baited it, leaving it on the counter where we found him earlier. But there’s still a chance he’ll come out and be a cat snack sometime in the night... we’ll never know unless we see him again tomorrow. My dad’s going out of town, so Mom and I will be on our own.

Chicago, if you wanted me to stay, you could have just asked... A mouse on the plane wasn't necessary...
