Reading through a short biography on Alice Prin was a sobering experience...her life seemed to epitomize the bittersweet feeling of fame come and gone.  It seemed like Alice didn’t know how to function once the public attention and limelight had faded...  It all feels quite similar to the struggles of Hollywood stardom. I felt like writing something dark in response, please enjoy.

Mahler's 3rd Symphony, Part II, movement 5.

Poor choirs, have to sit through over an hour of music before they come in for about three minutes of singing (if that, ahaha). 

I not too long ago arranged this movement for brass choir (successfully, I think). 

The thing that's awesome about this movement is its tenacity to get stuck in your head and stay there for a very long time.  With its simple melody, its child-like feeling with the addition of the children's choir, and that freaking ostinato that the basses have from time to time, aha...

Plus the really cool, repeated harmonic motion over the ostinato, going from vi to IV, just gets caught in my head personally...

I could literally listen to this movement all day, it just makes me happy and want to go sing in German or something!
