He originally came to me in a dream and I was so in love with him after I woke up that I made him into an oc to ship with! I haven't talked about him in a while but he's very special to me and I love him a LOT ;_; Whenever I get back to making content of him I'll finally be past the slow burn i've been exploring in my mind XD

Also he was in love with me from the start, in the dream he was in his god form literally pulling himself out of a storm drain to tell me I was the most beautiful boy he'd ever seen SDKJHSGJKSD We had a beauty and the beast scenario where I had to learn to love him naturally before we could start doing romantic stuff, otherwise his cosmic power would melt my brain. So our relationship was forced to move VERY slowly. He was so patient about it too! 😭

Anyway, speaking of cosmic power because it's funny that you asked for my 'oldest' oc because Aki is a primordial cosmic god. A primordial cosmic god that just wants to work tech support and play video games and love on me, heehee.

Just rewatched one of the best movies for when I am feeling down about the world: Moxie! Seriously I just love that movie, I always end up crying but hopeful.

The message that anyone can do something, no matter where in life you are, no matter how you screw up, because you WILL screw up, you can always do something, and doing something is always better than doing nothing

‘Moxie!” Is a movie made FOR me,,,, I mean - a trans character? casual lesbianism? saying absolutely FUCK YOU to mediocre white men?

Just watched Moxie! and it was okay-ish. Very surface level on the topics, pretty unnuanced characters, predictable story and all that jazz. But honestly? The possibility of this film introducing kids, preteens and teens to not only intersectional feminism but to Bikini Kill, Riot Girl, punk feminism and activism in the form of creativity, organizing and protest? That’s what makes me so happy this film exists. You go Moxie! you flawed but fun little film!

So I just finished watching Moxie on Netflix.

Tbh, I liked it! Some parts were a little hit and miss but overall I liked it. Good ass soundtrack. The humor was on point, but that’s to be expected of Amy Poehler. I feel like some things were brought up in the movie and then not dealt with very well, like the deadnaming and the girl in the wheelchair. It’s hinted that CJ got the part in the play, but not really shown and it kind of just ends there. The girl in the wheelchair, who routinely was stuck in the back of the marching band, didn’t have really any resolution?

I also just about would have killed to see the asshole antagonist get punched, but I know that’s even more unrealistic in an already dramatized setting. :/

That said, it is based on a book, which I haven’t read (though I think I’d very much like to). I can’t help but wonder how much was faithful to the book. I’m not one of those people who thinks movies are only good if they’re faithful to the book, but when the subject material is sexism/racism/etc, it’s often better if it is faithful.

All around, I liked it. Half an hour into the movie I almost stopped because I kept thinking, “I want to watch this with my mom. I NEED to watch this with my mom.” But alas, it was 2 am and she was asleep like I should have been. Guess that just means a rewatch at some point in the future.

I enjoyed Moxie! a lot. Yes, it had its cringy moments. Yes, some parts were predictable. Yes, Vivian made impulsive decisions but at the end of the day.. It's a movie about teengers and feminism. It's way better than how some shows tackle feminism (cough cough Riverdale cough cough). Seth would've been better as just an ally rather than a love interest cause it felt like he was only into the Moxie thing to get closer to Vivian plus their romance took away screentime that could've been used on the other girls.

I do feel like it should've been a series. There were so much that could've been talked about (from racism teenagers of color face to issues transwoman face). A series would've helped develop the characters more. They could've shown us more about Lucy, Kiera and Amaya's friendship, the pressure Claudia feels from her mother and having to go to college, the issues CJ faces, Emma getting the help and support she needs (which she did get that at the end), and more than just a white girl speaking for her poc friends. I feel like at the end, it should've been that they were all Moxie. Vivian started it but they all should've been Moxie as a whole.

Personally, a lot of scenes were realistic. I knew from the moment Principal Shelly entered the classroom, Caitlin was gonna get dress coded. I like that they pointed out that another girl was wearing something similar yet she wasn't pulled out of class. The scene where Vivian asks why her dad never visits or wants to be with her for Christmas did not have to hit that hard (another thing that could've be developed in a series). Douchebag harassing Lucy for not taking his bullshit, his friend harassing Caitlin. There's never been a list at my school or at least i never heard of it but considering Moxie! and Grand Army mentioned it, I assume it's an issue at many schools. It's absolutely disgusting and dehumanizing to make a list like that.

I definitely recommend watching Moxie! on Netflix.
