Mediated Performance Reading
Know Thyself: Tracking Every Facet of Life, from Sleep to Mood to Pain, 24/7/365
I found this reading very interesting, with self-tracking becoming easier it also has become more social. It has become social in the sense that users can compare their data with other users and see where they are at in comparison. I find it intriguing that with logging all this information into these apps/devices, it allows people to ‘hack’ their body and know their body more. I think it is good because users have a control over seeing all the data collected and the users choose what they can do with that data. For me personally, I think soon it will become a norm to record every aspect of your life (steps, activity) and it could be for the better by helping people set goals, be healthier, be happier or prevent illnesses.
Mediated Performance: Week 3 Lecture
This weeks lecture was about Data Mediation. It seems crazy to me that technology such as FitBit can track your activity, weight, exercise, food and sleep. I feel as though people are becoming more aware of their bodies and want to track every part so that they can maximise their life. For the weekly exercise, at first I was thinking about tracking my mood maybe record what times I’m happy and then from that data produce a chart but then I changed my mind to tracking how my frequent locations. Iphone already has this built in where you can see how many times you've visited a location and what time you arrived there and when you left. So I’ve planned to track my location for 3 days, Monday-Wednesday and the filter out places where I wasn’t there that long/don’t visit that much (once) then make a chart showing the data.
