I think that is the difference, yeah. Echo vs actual spirit, the resurrection stone does contact the dead, it just can't bring them fully back into the living world.

My personal method is to pretend that calc is some kind of magical discipline that will help me become a better witch/understand that beauty of the world. (If this helps, many things in nature, like pinecones, follow a pattern which can be expressed in math) Try and forget that it's a school subject and pretend it's something you want to understand instead (not easy, I know).
