Detroit: Rally in solidarity with Charlottesville, August 13, 2017.
Detroit Response to the Charlottesville Attacks: Hundreds of activists turned out downtown at Campus Martius on Sun. Aug. 13, 2017 for a militant vigil in honor of the martyr Heather Heyer who lost her life to racist violence on Aug. 12. Heyer was killed after a neo-fascist operative ran a vehicle into a crowd of anti-racist demonstrators. Five other people are still reported to be in critical condition and four in serious condition. The manifestation in Detroit on Aug. 13 was called by the Michigan Peoples Defense Network (MPDN). Various organizations supported the action including Workers World Party, IWW, Moratorium NOW! Coalition, Black Youth Project 100, BAMN, among others.
