Charlottesville, Virginia, August 12, 2017.
Below are statements from some of the Workers World Party protest participants who will be driving directly from Charlottesville to tonight’s protest in Baltimore:
“Today we saw the bare face of capitalist white supremacy. We believe that today is the time to stand up against racist terrorists that come from the capitalist system.” – Lee Patterson
“It is crucial to challenge white supremacists at every turn, and we did that today. They cannot go unopposed. It’s our duty to defend the communities that fascists attack.” – David Card
“When you see men proudly waving Nazi flags and cops defending them, you remember there is no center between the left and right. We must view them as a direct attack on the oppressed and working class.” – Mohammed Mahfouz
“There is a myth that fascism comes from the working class, and today we witnessed the very opposite. Beneath the swastikas and confederate flags were upper middle class people doing the dirty work of big capitalists–the same kind of people setting Chavistas on fire and destroying hospitals in Venezuela” - Andrew Mayton
