Link/Pit Week
Day 4: Hearts
A/N: Warning, mpreg under the cut! If you don’t like it, turn back now. If you do like it, feel free to check out my other archershipping family fics! I’d be happy to answer any questions you have about Link and Pit’s babies :D
For Pit, pregnancy wasn't all that bad. Sure, the morning sickness and the aches were no fun, not to mention that he had to wake up every three hours to pee during the night, but there was life growing inside of him, life that he and Link created together. Most of the time, Pit was his usually bubbly self, practically glowing with maternal happiness. All of the Smashers commented on this, some even going so far as to say that the baby bump Pit was sporting looked good on him.
He still had bad days, of course. Pit had days where he refused to leave the suite he shared with Link, instead choosing to mope about on the couch and play video games and watch television. He usually did this with a tub of ice cream beside him, lounging in nothing but a pair of boxers. Link was the only one who was allowed to see him like this, all rounded with pregnancy, and he was sure to tell Pit that he was beautiful and that he still loved him just as much as he always did. Pit was usually comforted by this, but there were rare occasions where he would scream at Link and lock him out for the night. On one memorable occasion, Link had sat outside of their door for nearly four hours before Marth found him and invited him to stay with him for the night. Link graciously accepted Marth's offer and took up residence on his couch until the next morning when Pit burst in, practically in tears, shouting an apology to the Hylian. Marth had to forcefully kick the two from his room because they had become attached at the mouth and were getting a little too into it.
All in all, Pit's four months of pregnancy were going swimmingly. He was past the point of showing now, and to be quite honest he looked as though he was much further along than he actually was. His belly rounded out in front of him, obscuring his feet and causing balancing issues. Pit often had to use his wings to steady himself when standing and sitting. He needed help putting on shoes and getting dressed as well, something Link was all too willing to help him with (especially when the task was undressing the angel).
Today marked a monumental moment in the pregnancy; it was the day they would finally hear their baby's heartbeat for the first time. The two were scheduled to meet up with Dr. Mario who would perform their first ultrasound for them. Needless to say, the two expectant fathers were more than a little nervous. Pit had taken to some nervous snacking (not to be confused with the snacking he did throughout the day, that is) and had procured a jar of jalapenos from Din knows where, shoving the things in his mouth three at a time. Link winced as Pit dunked the spicy little peppers in a mound of honey that he had sitting in a bowl on the table in front of him. This was the latest of Pit's odd cravings, something that Link had come to learn about in the weeks since they discovered the angel was carrying.
“We should get going.” Link suggested as Pit popped another honey slathered jalapeno into his mouth.
“'Kay.”
A few minutes later found Pit lying on the exam table, shirt pulled up to reveal the rounded globe of his stomach. Dr. Mario stood above him, a strange machine to the side of him. The doctor had explained it briefly to the pair, who seemed to get the gist of it. A cool gelatin was squirted onto Pit's stretching skin and the angel shivered.
“That's cold!” Pit squeaked, reaching for Link's hand. The Hylian took it, knowing that Pit had a tendency to want to hold onto him when he got nervous. Link took a deep breath as Dr. Mario apologized and lowered the probe to Pit's skin.
Almost immediately, the sound of a beating heart filled the room, effectively stopping both Link and Pit's breathing. They looked at one another, giving watery smiles, Pit laughing loudly before looking back at the screen where an image was being displayed. It all looked like various shades of grey blobs to the untrained eye, but some things were distinguishable. Pit was able to see two little legs tucked under a tiny body, the baby curled in on itself in a fetal position, and--
“What's that?” Pit asked, pointing to the left hand side of the screen. “Oh goddesses, did something fall off?! Did he lose a limb?! Is he alright?!”
Dr. Mario leaned closer to the machine, blinking as if stumped. He moved the probe along Pit's stomach until a brand new image was on screen. “Mamma mia! I don'ta believe it!”
“What?” Link breathed, completely mesmerized by the sounds he was hearing alone.
“Well,” Dr. Mario smiled at each of them in turn. “I didn'ta think thata heartbeat sounded likea anything I'vea ever heard before! And I wasa right!”
Before Pit or Link (who had gone a shade paler) could go into hysterics, the doctor explained. “It soundsa different because itsa not just one hearta beat. Itsa two.”
There was a brief moment where all of the oxygen had been sucked from the room and Link had to reteach himself how to breathe.
Pit was the first to recover. “Two...a-as in...twins?”
Dr. Mario smiled and nodded, showing off the two grey blobs to the eager parents, unable to get them in the same frame fully. He was sure to take pictures for them and point out specific body parts, answering any questions the couple had, but there was hardly anything else that Link or Pit could think about besides the fact that they were having two babies instead of one.
Dr. Mario had agreed to leave the monitor on and step out of the room so that the couple could be alone, surrounded by the sound of their babies beating hearts while they gazed at their tiny images on the monitor, hands still clasped together.
“We're having twins...” Pit said, voice filled with awe. Link was sitting beside him in a chair at his side, head nuzzled into the crook of Pit's shoulder and neck. “That's a lot more than one baby.”
Link sat up straight and kissed Pit sweetly on the lips, one hand resting on the crest of his stomach. “We'll manage.”
“Yeah.” Pit agreed. His hand came to rest beside Link's on his belly where inside of him two little babies with two beating hearts were nestled together, growing silently.
