My Lit teacher, Mr.Weiss, is deeply into philosophy. So we went into this whole Allegory of the Cave spiel. Which basically goes:
A few people were born in a cave, their whole life they've been chained in the cave facing the inner wall. So somehow they have a fire going, and a man walks in the cave.. And it casts a shadow on the inner wall. They've never seen a shadow so they think it's a monster Then one day, one of the people gets free and goes out.. They see the trees, Sky, clouds, etc...for the first time. So he goes back and tells the others and they obviously think he's craZy. And they get all defensive. It's a story of symbolism. So basically, we are the people, and the cave is our home.
My Lit teacher then ends on "there are three points of humanity: there's the known known, stuff we know we know. The known unknown, stuff we know we don't know.. And perhaps the scariest but most exciting: the unknown unknown, stuff we don't even know we don't know. reality is perception. There could be something more out there we don't know about."
