Childhood memory
Mr. Medic was sitting in his room, reading an old romantic novel as the Wondertainment gala downstairs took place. All of a sudden, Mr. William bursted into the room, gasping and fighting tears.
"It's Ryder." William said. "His dad took things even further than we thought."
The two rushed downstairs. Between all the slow-dancing rich couples and drunk ladies, they finally found the 15 years old kid. He was trying to crawl away from there, blood coming out of where his left eye is supposed to be and he was shaking and sobbing. Some people ignored him, others laughed at him.
"Ryder," Mr. William said as he picked him up. "Your eye..."
"It hurts..." He cried. "It hurts so much..."
"Let's get you to my clinic first." Mr. Medic said. "Away from these assholes."
They got back upstairs and went into Medic's bedroom. Ryder sat on the bed, shaking and crying, as Medic cleaned and patches his missing eye.
"He just..." Ryder said. "He just ripped it out... I... It all happened so fast... So many people..."
"I know, kiddo." Mr. Medic said. "I'm sorry we were late."
"It's my fault..." Ryder cried. "I wasn't a good son... I'm a failure..."
"Don't say that, sir!" Mr. William said softly. "You tried your best, and that imbecile couldn't appreciate it! You've done nothing wrong."
Mr. Medic finished putting the bandages around his eye.
"When it'll get better, I'll give you an eyepatch."Mr. Medic said. "You'd look like a pirate."
Ryder remained silent, still shaking. Mr. William sat next to him, allowing him to cry into his chest.
"We can't let him stay here." He told Mr. Medic. "We must leave."
"Couldn't agree more." Medic replied. "He's lucky no damage was done to the brain."
"But... Da- I mean, Dr. Wondertainment... Would kill me if I'd leave..." Ryder sobbed. "I hate him..."
"Aren't we all hate him?" Medic said.
"Don't worry, sir." Mr. William said. "We'll make sure he won't find out."
"I wish Melanie, Pietro and Marina were here..." Ryder said. "Hell, even Apeton would be good. They could help..."
"Well, William and I are here for you." Mr. Medic said, sitting on the other side of the small teen. "We're here to support you."
Ryder's fear turned to a small smile, and out of all worries popped out one piece of hope. "Thank, guys." He said. "You two make better dads than him."
"What?" The two misters asked.
"Nothing!" Ryder laughed awkwardly. "Man, I need some painkillers."
