This original Victorian print is part of a series of prints - 17 in total - that appeared in Robert Smith Surtees comic novel Handley Cross. The artist is John Leech.

The book print is taken from a first edition of Handley Cross and shows Mr Jorrocks entering town. He is surrounded by children and adults in Victorian clothing. The prints are hand coloured and date from 1854. Even after 164 years the colours are crisp and vibrant.
