MWGames In 2025: FULL RETRO GAME STORE TOUR!
Yugi Camp for Beginners with Matt (at Crayon Power) (Windsor Terrace)
Yugioh to help our kids learn and grow. The whole Idea is to learn through play which is our specialty. Yugioh has been especially helpful with kids who love fantasy play. Yugioh incorporates fantasy play along with math and literacy, helping children to practice skills such as reading comprehension, story development, strategic planning, problem solving and basic math-fundamentals. The children will have to develop strategy and learn how to verbalize this as the game evolves. This game creates great Socio-emotional support as the kids need to learn how to take turns and support one another while bonding throughout. When you take a child's interests and use that to teach them its a truly beautiful thing. This class is ideal for children who are interested in magical worlds and can benefit from working collaboratively with peers in a group.
Ages: 7-12 Days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday Times: 9-12pm Dates: April 13th & 14 (Introduction to Yugioh), April 17th & 18th (Mini-tournament)

Hi, I'm Mr Matt!
Tell us a little bit about yourself. I have worked with hundreds of children for over eight fulfilling years with organizations such as The Marks JCH of Bensonhurst, The Salt and Sea Mission of Coney Island, Park Slope Block Party Association and the BCCP (Brooklyn College Community Partnership). Some of my central thoughts revolve around the idea that ""everyone has special needs"" because everyone is looking for something in their lives whether it's someone who is patient and willing to listen or even just a loving and nurturing community.
What is your philosophy on and approach to behavioral management? I think we should talk with kids and explain to them why we have certain rules. They should learn about the idea of natural consequences and we should allow them to make decisions on their own as long as they are not causing harm to themselves or others. I believe in positive reinforcement, and the idea of investing in the child while building bonds. They will listen to not disappoint you and break the trust you have built.
Who was your favorite teacher and why? My favorite teacher was one i had during CLASSP which is a program that teaches you how to work with kids on the spectrum. I learned that not all kids work the same, not all techniques are fool proof. You really have to work with a kid and see what they react to. I also learned about the gift of time and space from that teacher and I am truly grateful for it. I learned that things don't always have to go your way. Sometimes we make plans and things go a totally opposite way, and that's okay. Sometimes all the kids need is some time and Space.
Do you have experience working with children with special needs? I am the Special Needs Supervisor at the Marks JCH Afterschool Center. I oversee such programs as an Extra Assistance Room which helps kids on the Spectrum with homework and building Social Skills. Saturday Swim which is a 1-1 ratio Swim program that helps kids with Special Needs learn how to swim while developing their fine motor skills. I recently started working an ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) program. I work at Crayon power which is an unschooling program for kids on the spectrum. I Supervise CLASSP which allows me to mentor young counselors who want to learn how to work with kids with special needs.
Credentials In order to expand my knowledge and continue to provide help to those who need it, I am taking the NPT(Natural Play Therapy) Certification course. "
