oh man. if I wrote tgcf fic, other than the huaqing i'm totally going to write someday, no, seriously guys.

I mean, until recently I hadn't actually thought much about the relationship between shi wudu and he xuan but this was genuinely a mistake of me and now that I have been thinking about it more I've been going "hmmm compelling. hmmmm potential" and this does sound like a fun kind of 'can't let go of my enemy' type of story that I do enjoy

Oh the thing I like most! Hmm this is actually a very difficult question to pick only one because I like the novel as a whole because I think it does so many things right. I’ll pick 2 things!

1st)

The narrative structure, so when and why the flashbacks happen because of how well it meshes with Wei Wuxian’s pov. Every time there’s a flashback(empathy aside) it’s because of a present event reminds him of the past, so it feels really like him slowly remembering his own past and looking at things from where he stands now. It also does a good job at keeping certain things amibiguous or clearly biased by his pov so you find things out but there’s room for interpretation!

2nd)

The way the characters are treated feels fair. Idk how to phrase this the best but it ties into the above subjective pov, we get a certain amount of information about all the characters,protagonists and antagonists alike that despite the subjective pov make you go “hmmm this isn’t to be taken at face value”. An I think it does that with elegance and grace in a way that neither goes into apologism nor judges them as complete monsters. It just shows us the events without passing a judgment. The story doesn’t tell you to judge these characters but it doesn’t tell you that what the “good guys” did was all fine and justified either.

What brought up the creation of the Askr Artspace in "This Could Be Us"? Not exactly the Depression Meals Bunch, but that they came together in an arts collective?

I’ve been intrigued by the concept for rather a long time; I’ve been on the periphery of some Maker spaces here in Detroit and as I got into the idea of an FEH-based crossover instead of a crossover purely on my own terms for the hell of it, it seemed a maker space/art space offered great potential. They tend to be idealistic but cast a fairly wide net so you might have anarchists, libertarians, greens, liberals, and more working in the same space, plus it’s a place where people leading privileged and relatively stable lives might rub shoulders with people who are basically living there. There’s not a lot of situations offering that sort of cross-pollination here in the US these days. Given Frederick’s interest in banners and uniforms (and knitting and sewing) is canon, it didn’t take that much to convince myself to go for it once Heroes provided a real framework for what’d been kicking around in my head for some years prior.

What was your first wlw ship?

Probably Buffy/Faith, but I never really got to read a whole lot of them at the time (which I now greatly regret).

Actually the very first fanfic I wrote, even earlier than my time in Buffy fandom, was technically Daenary/Sansa/Arya but it was more a parody porn fic now thankfully lost to time.

Before that, it’s hard to say, but I don’t remember much I could say I definitely shipped in any work I loved before my fanfic fandom...
