I'm just going to vent here because I can't bring this up on any other form of social media.
I had a real-life friend who was raised in an Xtian cult and did missionary work. By the time we met he'd left the cult, converted to a liberal/humanist sect of a different religion, and was extremely progressive. My spouse and I bonded with him over leaving cults. We were close to him and his wife for several years.
Then he came out as non-binary and received an adult diagnosis of ADHD and was very...militant? About both. As in, literally said that only the trans community should be able to use the word "transition" (as opposed to Black people using it to describe death) and other things that seemed like, well, tumblr SJ antics. In someone past 40. But we were supportive even if he was annoying about it.
Then after about a year, he announced he wasn't nonbinary after all. Almost immediately he started posting right-wing (literal Bari Weiss Free Press) stuff on both trans-ness and ADHD/autism. As in, pro-detransition, anti-diagnosis, you name it. He basically blew up all his relationships and flounced.
I miss that friendship but I feel the person I was friends with never really existed. It was just one persona after another, careening between extremes.
Real life is weird.
Important Life Update
Je suis Canadienne.
So the great nation of Canada recently changed its laws to reclaim several generations of "lost" Canadians born outside the national borders.
Suddenly, the fact that three of my paternal grandfather's own grandparents were born in Quebec was more than mere genealogical trivia. My grandfather was, with the stroke of a pen, rendered 100% Canadian...and so was my father. And so, apparently, am I.
I have consulted a lawyer and am currently in the process of getting the documentation together to prove myself a Lost Canadian. It'll take some time because many thousands of people have the same idea right now, but damn it's a good thing to have in my pocket.

The Forging Bonds for Baldr: Rays of Judgment (the FEH original character, not the FE4 crusader) took a turn when Finn decided to, uh, give an invulnerable deity his backstory while serving her tea. After sharing teatime with Constance from FE16 and hearing her tragic infodump as well as Finnās, Baldr decided humans were interesting enough that she looked forward to meeting more.

Belated thoughts on FE Engage...
So in February of 2023 I underwent major surgery (everything's fine). My thoughtful spouse supplied me with Fire Emblem Engage to play on the Switch during my recovery period. With absolutely nothing better to do, I dove in blind.
I kind of liked Alear (went with F!Alear), but the stupid started immediately. Amnesia, again. Zombies, again. Lumera's death scene. The broadly telegraphed secret to Alear's true parentage.
I figured once the obligatory stupid was out of the way we'd get into the plot, so it was off to Firene. I liked Alfred in spite of the muscles obsession and quite liked Celine. The supports about bodybuilding got old fast, though: why are the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Flowers so obsessed with muscles and not with, IDK, poetic meditations on the delicacy of life? Breeding rare plants? ANYTHING else?

Hiya Papaya and then off to Brodia, where we meet Alcryst and his retainers. I enjoyed them. We meet Diamant and he seemed cool. We meet their dad, who turns out to be a cool supportive dude and OBVIOUSLY marked for death. We gear up to engage (lol) Elusians in battle.
And then I got physically too tired to keep playing and put the Switch down. We then had a wonderfully inconvenient power outage in the depths of a Michigan February, so after several days of being hauled around to hotels like a sack of potatoes I'd lost my steam for playing.
I haven't picked it up since. I debate now and again whether or not I should, but TBH it felt like it wasn't going to rise much above mediocrity seasoned with nostalgia for Marth, Leif, Eirika, etc.
Should I give it another chance?

All in all a much more put-together version of Finn compared with his base unit-- nostalgic for the days of Quan and Ethlyn, but very much attuned to the moment and dedicated to self-improvement beyond the battlefield. Also very much someone grounded in a world of refinement and manners-- not surprising but good to see.
As with Teatime!Nanna referring to her father, this time Finn mentions his daughter. Still not shipping confirmation: have y'all SEEN the found families angle in FEH?
Explicitly not used to playing the butler role outside of this moment (unlike, say, Frederick). As we learned in her lines with Ingrid, serving tea is Nanna's job.
