OC Lore Dump: Meng-Yao Shane

Backstory of Meng-Yao "Honey" Shane

Meng-Yao was born in the Eastern Caverns to her mother, Chan Juan, and father, Shi Lei (the Eastern Champion before Junjie). Before she had even turned 2 years old, she was stolen from her parents by a sinister rogue.

The rogue had plotted to rid the caverns of their potential ‘new protector’ by taking her to a remote part of the Eastern Caverns. The journey would fortunately take them to the waterfall entrance to the grand underground. The infant Meng-Yao was left abandoned on the water’s surface by the rogue as he slipped back into Slugterra. She wailed and squealed as she floated down the river away from her home.

At a lower point of the river, an middle-aged couple had been minding their own, fishing away. The sudden echo of a baby crying caught their ears and turned their eyes to the infant drifting down the stream, flailing to survive. The man dove into water to pull the baby to safety. He and his wife take her to a hospital to be checked over and see if there is any records of missing babies. After their search comes up null, they cave to take her in. They bless her with the name Meng-Yao and raise her to be their own daughter.

Once she had finished with her high school years, Meng-Yao took her well earned scholarship to study abroad in America. She applied for criminology studies and dreamed of becoming an investigation specialist. However, her world would be turned upside by two people; her future husband, Will Shane aka the part-time clerk and student at the college, and her best friend in her course, Jane-Doe. Will and Jane-Doe rarely interacted outside of stumbling across each other while looking for Meng-Yao. Eventually, Jane-Doe distanced herself from Meng-Yao who became more serious romantically with Will. Her nickname ‘Honey’ was given to her by him in an endearing way. The two married after she graduated and moved in with one another to the Shane family home.

After getting comfortable, Will let her in on the Shane family secret. One night, he took her to the Drop and showed her the world of Slugterra. She fell in love with it the moment her eyes gazed at its beauty. The two would share fun times down there, eventually leading to finding her partner slug; Jetstream the Hoverbug. They would even have their own son to show Slugterra to in the future; Eli.

 Alas, things are never meant to be fully happy. 10 years after Eli’s birth, Will was missing his promised return date. Anxious as hell, Meng-Yao couldn’t sleep a wink. Her hopes crashed down as the flaming light of Will’s Infurnus slug shone into their house’s windows. She dashed to Eli’s room, her heart thumping and shattering in an instant. She opened his door, seeing her son standing in the middle of the room, the tragic letter pinched between his small fingers. He looked to her with confusion and sadness.

Days passed before she made up her mind; she was going to bring her husband back herself. She couldn’t bare losing her son to the dangers that had likely taken Will. She left a message with Will’s uncle Jimmo and set off into Slugterra.

Six years passed by. Meng-Yao taught herself how to sling, the uses of each slug and to ride a mecha beast. To avoid letting anyone know her identity, she took on the persona of ‘Ms Slinger’, a feared bounty hunter. She hunted down anyone who could have a clue to where her husband could be. Each of her leads turned up short or onto ‘this guy who knows another guy’. Eventually the intell turned onto an unsuspecting Dana Por. Ms Slinger was restless hunting down the young woman for answers only to face the reality she was desperate to avoid; her son in Slugterra.

The two shared a bitter-sweet reunion with her acknowledging she was wrong to have taken this path. She would aid the Shane Gang up till their final battle with Dr Blakk and Tad Blakk.

During this grand takedown, Eli and Mrs Shane would be surprised to find Will once more (though down an arm). The Shanes share a tearful full reunion and face down the man that separated their family to begin with; Dr Blakk. With help from all Shane members and the Shane Gang, they defeated Blakk for the final time. The crooked man was arrested and behind bars with his son.

To honey (Mrs shane) wasn't it odd that you were found in the sewers as a baby?

Honey laughs while holding her stomach. "Oh no no no! That's the secret entrance my husband's family helped built. I wasn't found in a sewer. My adoptive parents had said I was handed them on a leaf boat pushed by cranes."

She settles down, now looking longingly, "I do understand what they meant now. I was given to them by the flowing river that once welcomed mine and Junjie's great ancestor, Yang, to the world below."

To honey (Mrs shane): when did you found out that you were adopted and from slugterra eastern caverns?

Honey shyly chuckled, "Well... I... I had only learnt of my origins thanks to Eli's friend, Mira. While Will and I were waiting for Eli and his friends to return to the 99 Caverns from the East, they had invited the Eastern Champion to visit. Eli formally introduced us both to Junjie but afterwards, Mira had spoken up. She said that Junjie and I had a similar Slug Energy between us. Almost as close as it would be for family to share. To our shock, it was clear with our shared features and ages. Junjie was my brother and that I was born of the Eastern Caverns."

Valentine's Day date headcanons;

Eli & Trixie: These two have two date types; stereotypical teenager dates (ie lunch, a movie and going to the arcade) or the most extreme dates (ie cliff diving, high speed mecha races, slug outs etc)

Kord & Mira: Mostly calm, late night mecha rides, dinner at a restaurant or home cooked, baking sweets. Snuggling with each other on the couch while watching a movie

Pronto & Katrina: Similar calm dates; walks on the beach, home cooked dinner, glow worm gazing, thought could be a little chaotic with some treasure hunting

Trip & Twist: Similar to Eli and Trixie's dates. Though the two are pretty much on the clock 24/7 for Blakk Industries, so a little slacking off is added on. Trip pays for most of the dates since he uses his mom's money for it

Will & Honey: Reliving their dates back when they were younger. They go to their favourite diner and dance the night away both on the surface and in Slugterra. Though in Slugterra they sometimes have to wrap up baddies

Dr Blakk & Jane-Doe: Due to the nature of his work, Dr Blakk is constantly scheming. So he and his wife plot together whilst sitting together in their room
