Cher and Winona Ryder as Mrs. Flax and Charlotte Flax - Mermaids (1990)
After several jobs in Chicago, she decided she was a poet in her soul and enrolled in a night school writing class. She had no natural gift but filled notebooks with angry, un-rhymed verse about natural juices and the importance of a passionate life. One night after class, the boy who sat next to her, who was only sixteen and taking his diploma at night so he could work in his father's jewelry store during the day, a slight boy with eyebrows that met in the middle over his dark eyes, looked up at Mrs. Flax in her high heels and told her he liked her poems. Mrs. Flax didn't actually like the boy, although she did like the fact he liked her.

When Mrs. Flax left home after high school, she moved to Chicago, where she took a job as a secretary in a hospital. With her first paycheck she bought her first polka dot dress and her first pair of high, high heels and wore them to work the next day. She always liked polka dot dresses and always had at least one in her closet.

I didn't want to be Mrs. Flax; I wanted to be virtuous. But with half of her chromosomes, I didn't know what I was suppose to do.
