This phenomenal creation is a winner of many and some of the top awards in indian literature. it s winner if Dnyanpith Award 1995. It's a classic fiction focusing the "Karna" from the popular Indian religious fiction "Mahabharata".Karna is a one of the character from Mahabharata who was always been portrayed as a negative character but here in this book author has given justice to this generous charactor. The book delivers different perspectives about Karna. The book describes Karna as an epic example of generouseness, friendship, commitment, versatility and what not. I would say Karn was just perfect in all aspects and I started admiring the character. While reading, many of the times I felt how unfair the whole destiny can be with Karna. This could be a fight for right but not at all beneficial for Karna yet he has been dragged the whole time between Pandawa's and Kaurava's. He had to lost his loved ones more than any of the parties battling for their own pride and benefits. Karn was a gentleman whose complete advantage has been taken by the people for their own good. Karna is well-known for his generous nature, commitments and friendship. He was an almighty but unfortunate soul. This is nothing but an amazing piece of art by Shivaji Sawant. No wonder the book is been popular since decades in Indian Literature. The uniqueness about the book is that its written from different characters views and not just in view of a single character. Mrutunjay is about karn yet whole mahabharata is been narrated without even dominating Karna's character. What a wonderful confluence!! Though the story of Mahabharata is well known, the narration of book is just mesmerizing. It is a complete page turner and absorbing book. Mrutunjay was a fascinating read with collection of emotions. It's a story of motherhood, brotherhood, friendship, love, betrayal, vengeance and pride.
