Vivian spent a week confused and sad and just..She was a bundle of mixed emotions. So many people had left without saying goodbye, without a word whatsoever. But she was used to it. It still hurt of course, but she had grown accustomed to being left behind over the years. Except of course it stung most when the person who promised not to hurt her just up and left, just like that. It was obviously not her place to be so upset about it, especially if it had to do with personal or home issues but it still hurt so bad. Not even a goodbye?

Vivian had spent that week going through the motions. She dragged herself to her classes and back to her room, but she just wasn’t herself. She spent the days making herself completely numb, not wanting to feel again at the moment, but by nighttime she couldn’t handle the strain of keeping that barrier. All the emotions came flooding in and she was a wreck. But tonight she decided she was done moping around, decided she wanted to do something for herself. For the sake of her poor, broken heart.
Vivian let out a sigh, pushing off the blanket and walking to the box in the corner of her room. Inside was everything she had gotten for the masquerade thing with Willow. Willow. Willow left as well. Shaking her head, she pulled the box to her, opening it to stare at it’s contents before a sad smile found it’s s way to her face. She shut her door, even though her room mate was out somewhere else, and made a decision. Vivian focused on making herself numb once more, changing out of her clothes and into the dress, fixing her hair the way she had planned with the flowers in it, fixed her makeup and everything. But the mirror showed her always sad eyes, missing whatever small glints of happiness they used to hold. She laughed sadly, rummaging through her drawer until she found her last two cigarette packs, shoving them into her bag with a lighter and her phone. And something small, something shone with light reflecting off its sharp edges. She threw that in the bag also. And with one last sad smile in the mirror, she headed out to the tree where it all began.
She knew it wasn’t her place to be upset that they had left for whatever their reasons, especially if it was family or personally related, but she couldn’t help but be so upset about it. Her time at the Academy wasn’t as long as others’, but Vivian already had so many memories, most especially under the willow.
Vivian met Willow here. She had been crying and it was raining and Willow took her inside with her. Maybe Willow didn’t think the same, but even though they barely knew each other, Viv saw her as the older sister she never had. Her breath turned shaky once again as she bit her lip, trying not to cry as her emotional barrier shook, threatening to fall.
On one of her first few days here, she ran into Andy Davis. She was never very close with him, but he was a good friend to her, and the brother of Randy…And Randy was her boyfriend. Or, well, ex-boyfriend, now, she guessed. The tears welled up in her eyes as she gave up on the negation of her emotions. Shaking as the sobs shook through her, she fell to the ground against the tree, hugging her knees to her chest, the fabric of her pretty dress falling gently against her skin and the grass. This was all too much.
She remembered the fireflies, surrounding her and Randy on their first date. She remembered him telling her she looked beautiful in their light, the moon shining down on her. Vivian felt her heart break all over again, tears streaming down her face. Another night they were on a date here flashed in her mind. He had brought her on a mermaid hunt before bringing her back here to watch the shooting star shower. It was when they admitted to liking each other and he sang her a song and that was the night they first kissed. Vivian’s heart ached as she stared questioningly at her bag, pulling out his neatly folded shirt from inside, holding it close. It still smelled like his cologne. He hugged her and held her close here, promising to never hurt her… He promised. And she was stupid enough to believe.
Smoking and crying and staring at the stars the way they used to. That’s what she did, although she wasn’t sure how it was gonna help. She did it anyways. The small sharp thing in her bag was tempting, something she had been able to put off for a few months, until her dad decided to weasel his way back into her like and then all of this happened. It would be a cold, sharp kiss from an old lover. She held it gingerly, questioning herself when a thought crossed her mind. She wasn’t the only one who had been recently left behind. There’s someone that might know her pain. And she dropped her cigarette, shoving the light and the silver object back into her bag, sighing as she leaned against the tree. She knew she had to do this. Vivian closed her eyes.
She was going to find him. The one that might understand. The boy with the colorful hair. And she would never forget.
She’d always remember the memories of the willow tree.
