On Friday, we joined NYC Councilmember @dromm25, community activists and hundreds of #JacksonHeights, #Queens residents at a vigil to remember and mourn the loss of, #MsColombia a.k.a #OsvaldoGomez. Our Executive Director, @mohamedq_amin shared these remarks: “Miss Colombia lived fearlessly and her prideful and vibrant presence was always coupled with #love, #kindness, and #compassion. Whether it was a protest or a pride parade, her iconic cultural expressions, creativity, and visibility represented the diversity of Jackson Heights and essence of Queens, NY. May her freedom of individuality and authenticity serves as a continued reminder of our collective need to be who we are, be loved and love without the fear of discrimination and violence. She will continue to be a source of inspiration for future generations of #LGBTQ #immigrants in #NYC.” 🏳️🌈🇨🇴 (at Jackson Heights, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/BopyFVUgtBZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=g98zfacbh3dh

Most Awkward.Moment.Ever
So yesterday Ms Universe 2015 ended up with so much tension, so much drama and so much...awkardness. I was really disappointed when Steve initially announced that Ms Philippines ended up 1st runner up and was ready to turn the TV off, and then all of a sudden Steve came back on stage and said that he has to apologize and I was like "What? What is going on?" and he admitted that he made a mistake and told everyone that Pia IS Ms Universe and NOT Ms Colombia. I was shocked, and so as everybody else especially Pia who by the way was a good sport when she found out she finished second. And the rest was just pure awkwardness, at first I was really happy because after over 40 years a Filipina has finally conquered the universe, but at the same time I was really pissed. I wanted Pia's crowning moment to be perfect but unfortunately shits do happen and what made it worse is that it was aired all over the world, just imagine millions of people watching and this happened. Seriously WTF?! I feel bad for Ms Colombia because she thought she won, she was already wearing the crown, and made her first walk as "Ms Universe" and minutes after that she was stripped off the title because the host messed up, it was really hard to watch and I know it was tough for her to smile and keep her composure and make it seem like it was totally okay for her when it's not. But I admire her for still being gracious and a good sport despite of all the humiliatons she faced that moment. I also feel bad for Pia because she didn't get to enjoy her moment because first of all she didn't expect this, second, although clearly she was happy that she won she couldn't really express it because she had to think about her fellow competitor who just got "burned" after the mix up (dude, it's not cool at all). Then the situation got worse, all these other ladies (I was about to say the B word but come on, let's be nice here) came rushing towards Ms Colombia and did not even give way for Ms Philippines who was trying to reach out and maybe talk or comfort her, and one fellow competitor began chanting Ariadna's country and other girls followed which I think was very rude considering that Pia was also there. I know they were just trying to comfort Ms Colombia but they should have also considered Ms Philippines' feelings that it was also difficult for her to smile and wave at her countrymen when she herself also feels so horrible inside. The social media has gone crazy after that fiasco but then it worsened when this attention-seeker, insecure...lady (again, I'm not saying the B word) who tried to break the internet, let's just call her Ms Germany openly expressed her disappointment with the results and also said that none of her fellow contestants voted for Ms Philippines which I found amusing and funny because really? She DID have time to ask all other contestants who they voted? They are over 70 delegates not seven, if she did eh di wow! Ikaw na te! But even if she supported the other contestant she should have just kept her mouth shut, because if she really is "beauty and brain" she should be wise enough to keep mum and stop saying negative stuff and make the situation worse than it already is. No wonder she ended up as a CLAPPER (yes, caps lock for emphasis), Ms Universe is looking for a beautiful, gracious, smart, and kind WOMAN and not to mention a role model to each and everyone. Ms Germany is just a GIRL with insecurities and a bad, bad personality. Seriously Gemany, you are a beautiful country and you don't deserve a representative like this. I was so pissed at Steve Harvey for messing up and ruining the moment, up until now I still couldn't move on with the fact that he humiliated Ariadna and stole what could have been the happiest moment of Pia's life. But I admire him for having the balls to come up on stage and humbly admitted his mistake and corrected it, you proved to us that you are a MAN and for that you're forgiven, everybody makes mistakes and this was clearly unintentional. This is a lesson everyone of us should learn. Anyhoo Pia, our dear Ms Philippines, or should I say Ms Universe, you did a great job, you did not disappoint us. Thank you for bringing home the crown and honor to our country, this is truly a wonderful Christmas gift. Maraming salamat! To Ms Colombia, you are beautiful, and you did a great job throughout the entire competition, you are humble and a good sport, trust me you will be blessed. So smile! Colombia is proud of you and the Philippines salute you :) To Pia's bashers (hi, Ms Germany!), hate all you want but the crown is ours. To my fellow Filipinos, stop the hate! Let's celebrate! Hahahaha! Merry Christmas guys! Cheers! To the Almighty Father, you are truly amazing. We cannot thank you enough for this huge blessing. Despite of what our country is going through right now, you made us the happiest with your love. Thank you! Thank you so much.
