If lusii are sapient enough to hold conversations, then MSPAR dumping Spidermom in the volcano counts as murder, and nobody calls them on that. I haven't seen anyone bring that up but it creeps me out.

I think the sapience of lusus naturae depends almost entirely on rule of funny and rule of cool. In Homestuck, Hiveswap, Friendsim, and Pesterquest, it all seems to be completely unclear as to whether they're just animals, or if they're sapient guardians whose voices are droned out by their charges being hormonal teenagers. The only times we've seen lusii gain true sapience without a gag has been when a lusus is prototyped into a sprite and then talks to its troll, or in the case of Gl'bgolyb and Gl'b Jr, who aren't even truly lusii, but rather are highly intelligent minor gods or other-dimensional horrors of Lovecraftian inspiration, who are uniquely attuned to be a kill switch for the trolls.

That being said, lusus naturae are still parents on Alternia, killing one is murder, and doing it routinely gets you branded as an Orphaner. Could've been something they vibed with Eridan over, but I guess we had to get the Raised By Shrek story instead.
