 location: kangdae’s hometown

the pale moonlight shines over the dock, and kangdae can’t remember the last time he hung out at the dock. it must have been years, he used to hide out here, when he was in trouble, or just overwhelmed by the busy life of the village.  the one place where he could be alone, and not feel distressed.

but it was different tonight. he had brought someone to his hiding spot.

“it’s not that bad right?” kangdae questions peeking over at taeyeon, he feels like a child who’s friends came over to his house for the first time, he wanted to help her, to pull her out of the gloom that seemed to over come over. he hoped that his home could help take her mind off of things.” i know it’s not like the lake at school, but i think it has it’s charms, don’t you,” he bumps his shoulder against hers, smiling at her.

his voice is soft, “ i hope my mom and grandmother didn’t scare you off with trying to stuff you with so much food. i think that’s the only way they can communicate without yelling.”

“hmm...” nate hums thoughtfully as his eyes roam across the display of ice cream flavors, trying to decide which flavor he wants. taeyeon is at his side, seemingly not having a much easier time than him making a decision. there’s just way too many flavors. the late-night worker seems to be more than just a little bit annoyed with them, especially considering they’ve already wasted the first five of the ten minutes it had been left until closing when they’d gotten here. 

alright, so maybe he’s a little bit tipsy, making a task as simple as picking ice cream flavors seem like too tall of an order for his alcohol-affected brain. the two of them have just gotten out of borealis (having perhaps a few more drinks than originally planned for), and had made the hasty decision of ending their night at the ice cream parlor. well, he’d acted like it was spur of the moment, but in reality, this was all planned. because while he knows taeyeon doesn’t particularly like her birthday, he had felt terrible for missing it. well, he had been, uh, otherwise occupied on the day of, but that’s neither here nor there.

a birthday present given to someone who hates birthdays, though? doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that’s a bad idea. but a birthday present disguised as a night out getting drinks and ice cream? now, he doesn’t mean to brag here, but he does feel like that was a stroke of genius on his part. 

nate hadn’t planned for either of them to get this affected by the alcohol, though. a quick glance at the clock on the wall tells him they’re closing in on less than five minutes left to come to a decision. “do you know which flavor you want yet?” he asks, once again scanning the selection for what he hopes is the last time. “i’m kind of feeling mango. but also mint? but those two don’t really go together, do they? or... maybe they could?” not what he would usually pick, but it’s not the worst idea he’s had.

⟪ there she goes again ⟫

there have been several familiar faces that have graced her presence since her arrival at mokseong, and it hasn’t been quite as different or as scary and she had originally thought it might be. it’s been a pleasant change, honestly, though she still misses some people that she’d left behind at hogwarts. or more accurately, they had left her behind.

so when she sees the all too familiar figure, a side profile that she can’t forget, she bolts into a run before she even realizes what she’s doing. “taylor! taylor!” she calls out desperately, begging silently for it to be ( @msutaeyeon ).

taylor had left her with nothing but a note of apology, no real explanation, just a note and no trace of her friend. claude disappearing had been a true blow that had left her with so many regrets she could barely swallow them, but taylor disappearing was… too much. how was she the only one left among the three of them?

the match today had been, to put it simply, a lot. three hours of back and forth on the field, with the opposing teams scoring shots after shots, until finally, geumseong’s seeker had caught the snitch. nate thought he saw the seekers chasing after each other for a while, but he hadn’t paid too much attention to them, with the exception of the time he had taken out haejin for a few minutes. even amongst the beaters, it had been a battle. nate himself had been taken out by toseong beater taeyeon, although not for long. of course, being maybe a bit too into the game that day, he had gone for revenge, and... had knocked taeyeon out with a significantly stronger blow than she had hit him with. oops. he feels more than a little bit bad about that.

which is why, when he spots taeyeon in the great hall for dinner that evening, he takes the chance to talk to her. the night’s festivities are still a few hours away, meaning they have more than enough time for a conversation. or rather, an apology. 

“hey, tae,” he greets her, sliding into the seat opposite her. he hopes he’s not interrupting anything — she doesn’t seem busy, but what does he know. “i hope i didn’t hit you too hard today. i got... a little too into things, i think.”

soohwa still doesn’t completely feel that comfortable with his costume or the whole party atmosphere just yet. after all, it isn’t an everyday thing for soohwa to wear a short skirt and then go to parties where there are so many people being loud and then there’s the loud music on top of that, it’s the people dancing and being... shameless and it’s a little too much for soohwa if he has to be honest, almost regrets ever leaving hyunki’s side or maybe he should’ve asked for the other to keep him company until at least soohwa spotted taeyeon and hopefully also a safe way to get to her. but alas, here he is, and he won’t back down without at least giving taeyeon a quick happy birthday, or a hug, or a happy birthday hug. 

the things that he does for the people he loves — and maybe he isn’t only talking about crossing a party full of drunk students and loud music. 

it still takes him a couple of minutes before he finally spots her and soohwa can sense from the moment that his eyes lie on her that something is wrong, or at the very least different. it isn’t that taeyeon is someone as grumpy as soohwa usually is, but she’s also never this social either. from what he knows from her, she isn’t the type to want to go to parties and when she does, she feels as dislocated as soohwa himself. but now, when he looks at her, it almost like taeyeon belongs in there as hyunki does and if that’s not alarming, then soohwa doesn’t know what it is.

“taeyeon.” he calls her to get her attention, and of course before he goes all worried and scolding mode, soohwa’s eyes soften for a moment and there’s even a small smile on his lips. “happy birthday.” he pats her head gently. “thank you for being born.” 

but that’s for as long as it lasts. “are you ok?” then of course he’s frowning, worried. “how much did you have to drink?”

birthday party

✘ CLOSED STARTER — @msutaeyeon​

Malia couldn’t help but feel nervous at the Halloween party. After such a long day, the girl was questionable over whether or not she should just call it a night. She was never usually one to attend parties (and the last one she’d attended hadn’t gone as planned), but since many of her friends had said they’d be there, the girl thought that it wouldn’t hurt to drop by for a little while. Besides, it was Taeyeon’s birthday, Malia had to stop by with a gift for the mom of the Blossom Buddies. 

Despite going with a relatively modest costume, the girl was still shy about wearing it out. However, she was easily lost in the colorful crowd of fellow costume-party-goers, making her less conscious about being looked at. And while it had been a blessing at first, it had quickly begun a pain to find her friend amongst the different masks and capes. While she couldn’t bring herself to push and shove her way through the crowd too aggressively, Malia certainly did her best. 

Eventually, she’d found herself behind what she believed was Taeyon’s costume, tapping on the shoulder of the person she hoped desperately was her.

Please be Taeyeon. Please be Taeyeon. Please be Taeyeon.

“Taeyeon!” Malia let out a sigh of relief and celebration at the sight of the familiar face. “Happy birthday!”

a throwback thread w/ @msutaeyeon​

oh. 

the air in kangdae’s chest felt heavy, his eyes widening as he spots her. he almost stops in his tracks, when she turns. 

there she is. standing amongst the fall leaves, when did she come to korea?

how long has she been here?

she looks older than he remembered. of course, she did. it had been at least four years. 

the last time he saw her she was in her nightwear, eyes puffy due to sleep, as he held onto her window ledge because he was too stupid to use magic to sneak up to her room.

kangdae wonders if she remembers, remembers their last night, as well as kangdae does, how his voice quivered as he called out her name. one hush sentence leaving his lips before he dropped down to the ground and left.

the pressure increases. yet his feet are moving before kangdae could tell them no. would it be weird? no, it wouldn’t be, right?

his mind is a mess, flashbacks to shadowy figures, harsh words, and cold glares fill his mind. but she was there, pretty as she ever was, solemn and quiet. was she different now?

“taeyeon,” kangdae calls out, as he steps closer to her, his fingers grasping on the straps of his backpack, nervous for the first time in years. “hey, it’s been awhile.”
