Miscellaneous Monday. We visited Mt Barker today and saw 'The Shape of Water'. First off, let me apologise for not posting a story for Fiction Friday this week. I spent the morning travelling to the airport and, due to a delayed flight, the entire afternoon at the airport.

Howard Park Jete Rosé Methode Traditionelle, Mt Barker NV $34

This tidy pinot noir chardonnay blend has spent 18 months on its yeast lees. It has a light salmon-pink colour and a savoury bouquet with strawberry hints and a softly rich, rounded palate with generous flavour and almost fluffy texture. Finishes soft yet dry. Now to two years. 12 per cent alcohol. 91/100 - Huon's Wine 360

West Cape Howe Two Steps Shiraz, Mt Barker & Frankland 2011 $28

West Cape Howe is based at Mt Barker in the Great Southern region; managing director is the vastly experienced WA winemaker Gavin Berry. Its speciality is regional varietal table wines that consistently represent outstanding value for money. This is a classic example. Deep red-purple coloured, it smells of subtle spices overlying chocolate, vanilla, blackberry and walnut with a subtle floral note. It’s beautifully ripe, full-bodied and deliciously smooth, with soft, gentle tannins and fleshy texture. An almost opulent style with good fruit-sweetness followed by a clean finish. Now to 2031. 14 per cent alcohol. 93/100 (Huon's Wine 360)
