Just as usual || MT: Open
The day had been a usual procedure, as far as Dawn was concerned. She walked along the pavement, her eyes intently following the curb as she walked next to it, almost hopping rather than walking. It was a game the girl had grown quite fond of over her travels, and loved to see how long she could keep it up before she fell over. Her tongue was pressed in between her lips in concentration, the brisk winter air scratching at the girl’s raw cheeks as she struggled to keep her balance.
She gave up after a little while, sighing before lowering her leg down so they were both planted into the ground. The girl was stretching her right arm across her body, as a small light caught the corner of her right eye. It was flickering on and off, and though the day was light, it was still visible through the thin air. Dawn caught the air in the back of her throat, turning her body and widening her eyes in curiosity at the building presented to her.
It was quite a large cafe, a straw hatched roof tightly woven together being it’s most prominent feature. Dawn’s face etched into a smile, the energy she had used finally catching up on her. Her arms ached slightly from all the running she seemed to have done, so she shrugged and made her way towards the building. As she entered the cafe- made of little more than the roof- her cold fingers instinctively pulled the scarf to tighten around her face. She’d grown accustomed to hiding her face from the public eye, just in case her appearance sparked someone’s memory; as she’d most likely have to suffer a lengthy conversation with them.
She slid her thin figure into a chair at the back of the cafe, hunching over the table as her eyes travelled around the room. Her breath caused a thin layer of smoke to settle over her face every once in a while, but that quickly condensed into the air. After making a round of the room, the girl’s eyes hung lazily towards the direction of the road, counting the people out loud as they passed. Her idleness was interrupted for a moment, however, by the low sound of the waiter’s voice chiming in her ear.
“What would you like to order, madam?”
Dawn quickly span her head to the right, sitting up straight as she moved her head into her hand- pushing some of her black hair away from her face as she did so.
“No thanks.” Her tone was a rushed one, quickly followed by a nervous giggle as the waiter nodded to her and promptly turned to walk away. She let out a small sigh in relief, nervously adjusting her body in her seat as she rested on the silver table once again. The girl’s eyes wandered back over to the road, this time narrowing on a small figure that approached.
