AhhâKris was correct, Dawn would follow. She hadnât noticed whether or not the kid was following, though she could hear light footsteps behind herâand if she heard correctly, she could hear a light voice which sounded more like she was talking to herself than to another person.. It was true, this girl was much worse off than she herself was. Hell, she felt not so socially inept anymore around Dawn.
A pang of sympathy rang through her stomachâkind of like the kind when you saw a really cute animal smashed along the middle of the roadâand she couldnât help but say something. She wouldnât be very brash about it, or make a big deal over it to prevent losing her guestâs interest, though sheâd be kind of tender in manner when speaking.
Calmly pausing in her stride, she gave a soft laugh, âYou can walk with me, you know.â
She turned back around as she waited for the white-and-pink-hatted girl to catch up. Why she was being⊠not harsh? She couldnât necessarily figure out. Food for thought later, and she could admit that a lightness came about through her stomach, as if a side of that heavy weight that continually held her close to the ground was lifted. Refreshing it was, and Kris would ask no questions about it to herself until later.
As Dawn met Krisâs path, she turned back to the opposite direction to begin their walk once more. Normally the Johto girlâs pace was fast and directed, though she would calm it as if she were casually strollingâsomething she hadnât done for quite some time. Perhaps that would help keep her new companion from straying too much, as it wasnât often she got to talk to people anyway.
She hadnât originally noticed how fresh the forest was, considering it was winterâKris never really observed her surroundings anymore, as it was mostly unimportant to sit around and stargaze and things of the likes. Priorities were often the case, and normally she wandered or hung out in her rundown apartment in Goldenrod City.
âWhat kind of food do you like? Any particular tastes or cultures you prefer? Thereâs actually quite a few nice places to grub in town, itâs really cool how much of a variety thereâs available.â Comfortable silences were nice, though she felt the need to break it as partially to figure out exactly where they were going to eat, in the case that Dawn didnât like the average breakfast or something weird. People were weird, and kind of unpredictable. Asking wouldnât hurt, as far as Kris figured.
Dawn subconsciously kept her distance from the other girl as she followed. It had became a kind of habit she had contracted over the years, though one she was quite inwardly grateful for. The girl had never really been a huge fan of walking next to people; there were too many things to consider. Where to stand, how fast to walk, what to say...
The girl decided it was time for herself to stop thinking so negatively, and to walk next to Kris. As she picked up her speed and slowed down next to the other girl, she couldnât help but gulp slightly as she glanced up at her. It really did annoy Dawn that she just couldnât get used to people at times, but it was something that sheâd learnt to deal with. No use in dragging down the atmosphere for others, right?
âYes thank you.â The girl voiced when her body was stood next to Krisâs, a rushed tone obviously running through her words. She fiddled nervously with her hat for a couple of seconds, pulling it down firmly to her head. She did this as a way to sneak a glance at the other girl, who was quite happily walking at a decent pace next to her. It was slightly difficult for the girl to keep to begin with. Dawn had always found this to be the case, and she hadnât quite figured out why it was so. It was irrelevant for her to cast her mind to something else now, anyway.
Kris barely looked at Dawn as they walked- only to cast a few glances her way, anyway. It was strange how distant Dawn felt from the girl, even now theyâd gotten to know each other slightly. It made Dawn feel quite excited- the fact that Kris had deemed her interesting enough to give her some sort of company.
The two of them were pretty silent for a little while, the slight glances drifting between the two of them was pretty much the bulk of their interaction. In fear of the atmosphere tensing slightly and becoming awkward, Dawn decided to chime in slightly as they walked. âItâs a nice day...â Dawn almost knew that she would be talking too quietly for her voice to be heard, but she really didnât mind. She liked to talk to herself, and not having an answer back almost made herself feel more secure- because she didnât need to expect an answer.
The grass underneath the girls' shoes crunched as they headed towards some signs of civilization- as the grass itself was tipped with frost. Dawn was feeling a little tired herself, so she was dragged out of a brief daydream when Krisâs voice met her ears once again. She perked up at the sound, taking a moment to fully process what she had said. Dawn stopped walking for a second and stretched out her arm; in the direction of a small cafĂ© to the right.
âI like... Muffins and snacks. A cafĂ© might be a good idea. I donât mind though, what would you like to eat?â
â⊠Well I should sort of warn you⊠but well⊠never mind.â
She hoped a bit that the boy look a like of hers would be a bit tame towards Dawn. If not⊠Platinum will have to talk to that insufferable man again about disrespecting and about the distortion world. Ugh. UNLESS HE WASNâT LISTENING⊠SHE WAS GOING TO GIVE HIM ONE HECK OF A TIME. Cough, cough now what was thatâŠ?
âOh? Really now. It has been months since I have seen them after that incident⊠They watched me finish the Battle Frontier, and afterwardsâ- I watched them do their comedy routine on the stage of Jubilife City. Now and then, I have hardly any time to see them due to some work⊠⊠I really want to see those two. I wonder if they have made any progress in their comedy routinesâŠâ
Beginning to ramble a bit, she looked towards Dawnâs curious face, the heiress began to turn red.
âOh, I am really, really sorry about my sudden inexcusable ramblingâŠ!â
Dawn found it curious how Platinum seemed slightly distant for a couple of seconds, maybe contemplating something in her head? Regardless, Dawn ignored this for a couple of seconds, until the girlâs attention turned back towards her. It was amusing to watch her thought process, anyway.
Dawn found it interesting to listen to what the girl had to say, and looked closely at her with wide eyes as she recalled her adventures. Dawn couldnât help but think what amazing friends Platinum must have as she spoke of their many different escapades. Dawn was almost disappointed when she stopped speaking, so she decided it must have been her turn to say something back.
âNo, no- I donât mind rambling. I donât do it much myself but...â The girl trailed off slightly before she finished speaking, glancing back up to Platinum before shaking her head and continuing; letting out a small chuckle as she did so.
âWell... Me and my friends didnât really travel together as such...â Dawn chewed on the corner of her lip slightly as she spoke, glancing around the floor she planted herself on as she did so. âWe liked to go our separate ways I guess... Everything being treated like a competition was a bit pointless, really.â
âIâve never been to the battle frontier, though. Is it good fun there? I heard it is...â

Turns his head around simultaneously ignoring her and look as if he was looking for someone else in particular. âTchâŠâÂ
Dawn was just enjoying her day, and moving at a slow place in general. She'd passed many people on the day, but upon hearing this boy's voice she blinked a couple of times and turned her head towards him.Â
He seemed to have wanted to say something to her, or was taking some kind of special notice, so the girl was naturally curious as to why.Â
"Um....Can I help you?"
She nodded slowly at Dawnâs first statements, not saying much until she began raising questions. Kris noticed the foreign girl often double-checked to ensure that she wasnât messing up her wordsâwhich was quite odd, yet it was somewhat⊠cute. She couldnât think of it any other way, aside from it being almost childish or even sad in another light.
It surprised her that she would even think of someone in such a mannerânobody was ever cute or demeaning, like children or even people that normally would be considered âattractive,â for instanceâthough Kris continued the conversation as to prevent an awkward seam in the flow of speaking back and forth.
To answer the darker-haired girlâs question, she nodded. âGoldenrodâs the next town over. Weâre actually north of it as we speak. Thereâs not much too exciting there, besides maybe the Game Corner, though itâs pretty noisy and filled with drunk idiots. Thereâs a good place to eat a few blocks from here, if youâd prefer that.â Though she normally would never have offered anyone lunch, not even her own close friends she familiarized herself with, she didnât go against herself at being kind to the stranger; something in her told her that perhaps Dawn wasnât too bad, and maybe she wouldnât be too much of a fuckover in the end.
Kris subconsciously toyed with the ends of her pink jacketâthe same jacket that was a bit small on her for the past few years, particularly in the breast area, that had holes where she normally would grab at and pick at the fibers with her bitten-off fingernails (which was, sadly, an old habit she developed long ago). Now thinking about it, she quickly looked over the Sinnoh girlâshe noticed that Dawn was particularly neat and trimmed, as if it hadnât been too long ago that sheâd properly been able to groom her hair and the likes (the first thing she had noticed was hair, which she was naturally accustomed to at this point due to her innate jealousy of people with tamable hair on their head), and the Johto native immediately felt her cheeks grow warm in slight embarrassment, as she was nowhere near as clean-cut and lovely as Dawn was.Â
To avert from this obvious fact, the blue-haired girl gave a slight chin point towards her next destination. âTheyâre serving breakfast still, I believeâmaybe we should head towards there.â Sticking her hands in her shorts pockets, she began walking away, step after step, knowing that it was likely the nervous girl would follow alongâespecially considering that it was implied Kris would be paying for her lunch.
Dawn noticed something for a split second as she waited for Kris to reply to her. She seemed to have paused- why the girl didnât know, but it did raise her curiosity slightly. She was obviously thinking about something of some relevance, but Dawn decided to ignore it and continue to allow her eyes to cast around the area which they were standing in.
The woods around the two girls werenât actually that dense, and the smell of fresh grass made Dawn lift her nose to sniff it a bit, albeit looking a bit strange in doing so. The air around was thin and crisp, lapping gently against Dawnâs face as she continued to listen to Kris speak. When she finished her statement, Dawn nodded slightly and scrapped her feet against the soft ground underneath her- at the same time folding her arms across her body and shivering. Even though the girl was usually accustomed to the cold weather of her own homeâs climate, sheâd learnt that this resilience wears off the more youâre away from home. This fact almost made the girl feel a bit sad.
âOh... I see.â Being around a load of drunken people was definitely not the girlâs cup of tea- in any sense; especially ones that would be loud and generally stressful around her. The girl couldnât help but let out a soft sigh at the reality of Goldenrod city-she expected slightly more to look at for one of the bigger cities in Johto. She decided to take the other girlâs words for what it was like- it made things a lot easier that way. âEating something... That sounds like a good idea.â These words may have been mumbled too quietly for Kris to hear, but she said them regardless. It was a good idea, anyway- Dawn hadnât had that much to eat at all, so it would be nice to stop off somewhere.
Daw glanced down at the girlâs fingers for a second. She was tugging on the end of her jacket- a habit which the girl hadnât seen before, herself. Dawn bit the bottom of her lip, anchoring her head towards the floor so it didnât look like she was staring. This kind of short silence was one of the things the girl hated about social interaction in general- mainly because sheâd usually choke out something stupid during the short amount of time. For now, Dawn held her tongue and tried to roll her eyes away from the girl as much as she could. Not to be rude, but more as a way to avoid giving her any kind of bad impressions. She did notice that Krisâs hair was quite messy, but she honestly didnât take that much stock in appearances. If anything this made Dawn relax slightly- not having to try really hard to impress, that is. Though thinking like that was indirectly rude in itself.
Dawn blinked a couple of times as the girl started to walk, quite taken aback, in fact. Though she just gulped to herself and followed at a slow pace behind her, lightly treading on the ground a few yards behind her. The distance might have made things slightly more awkward by ways of conversation, but the girl decided to perk up anyway.
âWhat sort of food do they serve there? Iâm not really that fussy, but...â
Giving a light smile, Platinum nodded at what the other girl had said.
âAh well⊠I might warn you about someone else having that name⊠but I would leave that to your own judgement of how he is.â
âTwinleaf⊠thatâs where those two are fromâŠâ she mutters a bit slightly quiet but a bit loud. âIâm from Sandgem. Well, I never actually been to Twinleaf before⊠I might take a visit to see some friends of mine.â
Dawn's expression changed to a confused one for a second, curious as to what the girl meant when she said 'someone else'. Well, it was obviously someone else with the name Platinum, but the girl just laughed faintly before replying.Â
"Ok.... Whatever you say. I'll make my own judgement if I meet them.. yeah."
Dawn had trailed off a bit from what she was saying (her head tilting upwards for a second as Platinum spoke), but she retained some concentration as the girl spoke at least.Â
The girl was able to catch part of what the girl mumbled, her gaze drifting back towards Platinum as she said something about people being from her town. Dawn perked up slightly as she heard Sandgem town.Â
"Ah, one of my friends... Is from Sandgem. Another one is from Twinleaf as well, actually. I saw both of them not too long ago, but I hadn't seen them in quite a while... How long has it been since you saw your friends? I guess you, ugh, travel as well?"
AAHâ! Why are you saying it like that now, too, Dawn?! I thought you were more sensible than him! [ He shoots an offhand glance to Barry, but quickly acts like he isnât in the conversation anymore. ]
Iâm not sensitive either, just irritated that none of you seem capable of pronouncing my name right. Itâs not that hard, really. Lu-cas.
Cockie.
[Leans in and hugs Lucas.]
You know I'm only teasing you... Lucas
[glomps Lucas's face off] I can't say the same about Barry though... Let's just call you Cockie anyway, ok? â„
LUKA LOOKA COKCIE YSUDFGUKA LUCAAAAâŠ.. AAAAAAAâŠ.. AAAAAAAAAA
Lucy.
I have nothing to say to you until you finally say my name right. Honestly, even my pokemon can manage âLucasâ better than you and they usually tick to their own name 80% of the given time. Some of them donât even have those letters in their vocabulary, such as Theodore lacking an âsâ in his species alias, but he can still groan my name at the very least!
Come on, Cockie, don't be so harsh on him? Most people don't know how to say your name anyway. I for one do--
You just make it way too easy to get teased...
âYesâ- precisely, itâs a metal. Odd name for a girl, isnât it? But then⊠those two are named after gems tooâŠ.â She gives a slight wan smile.Â
âAre you possibly from around Sinnoh?â
Dawn narrowed her eyes at the girl and leaned forwards opening her mouth once for a second before closing it. She glanced at the her toes, letting her voice sound when she was sure on what to say.Â
"It's not particularly odd- I just don't know anyone with that name, so... I can't really judge people."
"And yeah, I'm from Sinnoh myself... Are you as well? I wonder if you know my hometown; Twinleaf."
"Me, my bud Ethan, and that hyper blond kid you're always with."
But I only just met you? Umm...
Fuck: Maybe you? Urgh...Marry: His name is Barry if, you... didn't know.Kill: Who's Ethan?Â
volkner gardenia flint
Ugh....
Fuck: Gardenia Marry: VolknerKill: FlintÂ
"I-t's a bit strange, don't you think..."
Kris began to conclude that this girl was like herselfâa bit difficult in social situations. That made her feel sorry for Dawn, though she had no real reason to be apologetic to someone she hardly knew. It didnât change how she felt toward her in this moment, as she was unfamiliar with her still, though it would make the Johto girl act slightly kinder and perhaps speak softer in tone, as to not disturb her any further than she probably already was by the brash kidâs attitude.
âAh, that makes senseâtraveling is a great way to keep yourself busy.â And she knew that from personal experience. âSinnohâs pretty far though, mustâve taken a while to get way over here.â
Though she paused when she was asked the question in return. She contemplated her next response for a few moments, making sure to word it correctly as to not prevent any misinformationâand to keep from sounding like a pathetic jerk.
âWell, Iâm from here, JohtoâIâve returned for some reason, I was in Hoenn for quite some time recently.â A shrug followed her statement. It was a wise decision to keep from going any further in depth as to why she wasnât home in the first place. âBut reasons aside, I like Johto. Nice place if I say so.â
âOh uh, do you want to sit down somewhere? You look a bit flustered if you ask me.â The sudden concern for this girl before her was⊠interesting. Kris never really was worried about how other people, since she nearly always never needed to be concerned for a single person with the exception of herself. She pushed the small thought awayâfood for thought at a later date.
Kris was definitely one of the more... Outspoken people the girl had met. Dawn had learned to deal with these people in time, but still found it difficult to keep a fair conversation between herself and the person in question. However, the girl she was talking to also seemed to have trouble communicating- from what Dawn could pick out, anyway.
âYes, it did take a, ugh, while to get here.â Dawn spoke slowly, as if to not slip up or confuse her words- like she was prone to doing as of late. Kris had seemed to slow down her speech slightly, and her presence in general had levelled out during the conversation. Dawnâs shoulders were stiff, but relaxed at this fact- allowing her gaze to affix properly upon the girl.
Dawn raised her eyebrows marginally at the girlâs comment, smiling slightly as her eyes began to drift around somewhat- yet again. âYes, Johto is a nice place. The people here seem friendly, at least.â The last part was rushed scarcely, almost added on as Dawn touched her forehead; making sure that what she said was correct. The girlâs mind did hazard a thought as to why Kris had not yet returned home herself, but Dawn decided not to act upon these thoughts. Everyone deserves privacy, after all.
Dawn lifted her head up from her hand as the girl spoke, widening her eyes and nodding gradually in agreement. âThat might be nice- Iâve been walking all day.â She was slightly more flustered now that Kris had blatantly pointed it out, but she needed to rest somewhere soon anyway.
âAre we close to Goldenrod City yet? At least I think itâs...â The girl trailed off, eyes diverting back downwards for a moment. All the travelling had worn her out, and being flustered really didnât help her speaking skills. She just hoped that Kris realized what she was trying to say.Â
âAre you sure about that? You donât sound like it.â
A snort following her remark, she looked at the unsure kid before her. A pretty girl, though telling by the look on her face she was more than likely lost. What was with her, anyways?
âYeah, sure, Iâm interesting all right. But really, what do you want? Iâve got other things to do than to be the butt of your jokes.â Of course, it was likely that this Dawn could be sincere, though Kris wasnât buying it for even a moment.
âWhatever. Iâm Kris, blahblahblah. Where the hell âya from, anyways? I donât think Iâve ever come across you once.â
Dawn blinked for a few moment nervously dragging her fingernails through her hair and allowing her eyes to flicker around the girl she was talking to. She was very bold, to say the least, and that sort of person usually had this effect on the girl; making her nervous and unsure.Â
"I'm pretty sure." Dawn stuttered slightly, letting her breath mask her words slightly as she spoke.Â
"...I don't want anything from you? And I don't really like people being nasty to me so why would I be like it to you?" The girl stopped for a second, clarifying what she said and nodding to herself; in the direction of the floor.Â
"O-Oh? I'm usually from Sinnoh but, um", the girl tapped her fingers against her leg for a second before gathering her thoughts, "I haven't had much to so- I'm traveling."
Dawn was certain that she may have seen the girl before, but just shrugged it off. Everyone in a crowd of people had grown to look the same to Dawn, regardless.Â
"How about you." The question was brought forward as more of a statement, the girl connecting her eyes briefly with Kris's on occasion as she spoke.
A whole ton of people began creeping on you, and youâre curious why.
Thatâs not really alarming at all, Kris remarks, sounding almost bored to death already by the swarm of people. âNameâs Kris, whatâcha lookinâ for? Though whatever it is, Iâm sure I donât have it.â
"S-sorry..." Dawn laughed lightly as she pulled the hat on her head firmer to her scalp. She switched balance between her two feet for a couple of seconds, swaying from side to side as she did so.Â
"I just sort of followed everyone else here... You looked interesting I guess."
"I'm Dawn, I guess..." She shook her head for a second, quickly correcting herself. "I mean yes I'm Dawn."
âHm⊠Dawn, huh? âTo become dayâ Thatâs a nice name you have.â She gives a small slight smile.
âIâm Platinum⊠Platinum Berlitz.â
Dawn blinked a couple of times, widening her eyes as the girl made her observation. It was clear that she knew a lot more about this sort of trivia than most people.Â
"Yeah, I guess you're right." She spoke as she tucked her mouth under her scarf slightly.Â
"Your name is like gold or... Silver and stuff. I think it's quite elegant, anyway."
