The storm that will welcome fall into the valley.
"Summer ends, and Autumn comes, and he who would have it otherwise would have high tide always and a full moon every night; and thus he would never know the rhythms that are at the heart of life." ~Hal Borland
Mt. Sopris
Hiking is mind boggling to me sometimes. The pure scale of distance that can be covered in a single morning is incredible. I love it. I started the morning gazing at Mt. Sopris from 8,000 and some odd feet
and ended up gazing down at Carbondale, CO from the top at over 12,000 ft.
As icing on the cake, I had the entire mountain completely to myself. There's nothing like stopping for a break and hearing absolute and total silence. Hiking is my release, my therapy, and my reset button. I can't imagine a life without it and I am grateful I have the ability to take advantage of the beauty that Colorado has to offer.
Fun and random fact about Mt. Sopris: There was a petition in 2011 to rename the East Peak of Mt. Sopris (on the left) "Mt. John Denver" 74% of people were opposed and the name remains unchanged.
Additional fun fact: Mt. Sopris has an East and West peak (as you've probably guessed by now) and they are exactly the same elevation, 12,965 ft.
