Crossing the Nisqually River at 7 am
Training off Rainier
Early morning fog rolls off the back of Mt.Rainier across a field of Seattle's Best Water Vapor. On approach to Sea-Tac, WA.
An intruding wing was removed using Photomatix.
The Chinook called it “The Mountain That Is God” but you probably know it as Mt. Rainier.
John Muir said it best, “Out of the forest at last there stood the mountain, wholly unveiled, awful in bulk and majesty, filling all the view like a separate, newborn world, yet withal so fine and so beautiful it might well fire the dullest observer to desperate enthusiasm.“
A hiker takes it all in, 1973
Tracy ‘Trouble’ Ellis hiked SOBO in 2018 . . . starting on Canada Day (July 1st) and ending at the Mexican border November 26th. We previously posted a photo set from her walk about non-traditional water sources in the arid south (especially dry by November) . . . guzzlers, caches, and the barrel above the LA Aqueduct . . . http://pcttrailsidereader.com/post/182194459605/water-in-the-desert-south-is-delivered-in-many ). Going SOBO presents some different challenges but also has benefits, such as seeing the Washington Cascades at their most glorious. Mt. Rainier above.
The top of the chair lift at White Pass offers a spectacular view. From here the climb begins into the Goat Rocks (photo below). We’ll post more of ‘Trouble’s’ images in the weeks to come as we await the beginning of the 2019 hiking season.
Tracy, a veteran of the AT and Vermont’s Long Trail, is Canadian . . . check out her journal at http://www.trailjournals.com/journal/about/22197
