Meet the Avs (part 2/26): Gabriel Landeskog
Gabe Landeskog is a 24-year-old Swedish hockey player for the Colorado Avalanche, born on November 23rd, 1992. He’s a 6′1″, 201lb, left winger who was drafted second over all in 2011 to the Avs. The next season he became the youngest captain in NHL history (prior to Connor Mcdavid) at 19 years and 286 days old. Landy made his NHL debut on October 8th, 2011, against the Detroit Red Wings. He scored his first goal October 12th, 2011, in Columbus, Ohio. He then went on to win the Calder.
Gabe was born in Stockholm, Sweden. His father, Tony Landeskog, is a former defenseman for the Swedish Hockey League. Gabe has an older brother and a twin sister. Prior to being drafted to the NHL, he moved to Canada, alone, at age 16 to play in the OHL. Gabe played for the Kitchener Rangers for two seasons, being the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
Internationally, Gabe has played for Sweden multiple times. He won gold with them in 2013 against Switzerland. He played all ten games and recorded 4 points, his one and only assist being in the final game.
