Magic Confessions

If you were to talk to any magic player, pro or casual, they would tell you that their losing record is much higher than their winning record. Yes, this game takes skill, but it is also luck of the draw. Many times I have had that perfect deck that just runs the tables, it’s like the magic gods were giving me everything I needed. Then there have been many times I have had that perfect deck and it not give me the draw I want and just get mana flooded. It happens, and it’s going to happen. That’s just how the game goes sometimes. You are gonna have those great days, and then you are gonna have those bad days. Learn from your bad days because you can learn so much from them. Make notes of what went well and what didn’t go so well, and at the end of the day review what you have and fix it for next time. You’ll see that you will become better with time, and that you wont make the same mistakes that you made before. As magic players we are constantly learning new things to make better. The cycle never stops.

The new print of Pacifism makes me happy. Because for once it’s not that strange... thing... from its print in... was it Visions? Mirage? somewhere in that general area. But its still not the Onslaught one. Better flavor text, but I’m an Akroma fanboy at heart.

I literally cannot stand the card Dark Confidant. I get that its supposed to be really effing good, but in any game I manage to use it I have lost, 100% of the time. This may be because I am using it wrong. But still. Pseudo-Bob's go the same way. And Bitterblossom. Probably the only cards of that nature I enjoy are Phyrexian Arena and Greed (or Necropotence/Yawgmoth's Bargain for those with deep wallets) Don't get this mixed up with me hating Black as a color in the game. I actually don't hate it. Tutors = good, drain spells = good, kill spells = good. But stuff like this... no. I will pass.

My obsession with control decks countering and killing comes from a U/B control deck that got its kicks by, wouldn't you know it, countering and killing everything that moved. Its ace cards were Oona, Queen of the Fae and Sphinx of Jwar Isle. Never underestimate the power of Shroud when you don't own a single board wipe. Sphinx won more games for the guy than Oona did.

ironically, the owner of that deck hated it as much as we, the victims, did. he never ran a single control deck after that one

Another two-for-one because busy is not always good My pride and joy constructed deck is my G/W Stoneblade. In truth, it's only G for Behemoth Sledge, but it's something I have been working on since I was inspired to build it. The inspiration came from Magic: DotP 2012, in particular Gideon Jura's deck. The only card the deck needs to be complete (not to say its not functional now) is Sword of War and Peace

I find decks that run the Omniscience/Enter the Infinite combo to be repetitively boring. It's literally the only combo I find to be so, hell I even tolerate Sword of the Meek shenanigans with Thopter Foundry and Time Sieve (since my best friend plays it). But then, the Omniscience/Enter the Infinite combo was also the end result of the first EDH game I ever played with my first deck I had full confidence in (my Rith the Awakener vs their Prime Speaker Zegana)

Two today since I was busy yesterday

The most satisfying thing I ever did in Commander was use Confiscate on a Jace the Mind Sculptor when it was ready to fire off its Ultimate. The player had only one mana open and while he later revealed he had Spell Pierce in hand, I had an untapped Sol Ring. Moral of the story is JTMS is not invincible, and if you're playing blue, keep more mana open.
