Ashaf as a First Class Mage

One thing I absolutely love about Ashaf's character is that it takes for the plot to move on a bit for readers to notice that, like Guideau, he's also high game.

That's done very smoothly and efficiently, because the story at first naturally tends to focus on introducing Guideau as a monstrous force to be reckoned with. So during the first arcs, Ashaf is often "reduced" as their supervision and support. But the more the plot moves on, the more we realize Ashaf is even more mysterious than Guideau and might as well be considered as dangerous.

Finally, in the on-going arc (spoilers+++), we're introduced to the summoning of Dragons (plz that scene was absolutely epic) being one of the highest feats of magic...

...and they speak of "only one person who managed to summon an entire Dragon in history".

Later, in the latest published chapters, we're also introduced to the concept of Witche's Disciples through 2 new characters...

and Ashaf is once more rudely looked down upon by another magic user (Dunward was also hella rude during Orlencia Sett), which leads him to say this :

So now I ask you : could it be that Ashaf, the first class mage with many animal familiars, is the one man who once managed to summon an entire Dragon ? Considering I also believe it's not far-fetched that Ashaf may know Angela from a time long past, I wouldn't be very surprised if it was the case (maybe he too received a Witch's favor). :D

Anyway, while we wait for the answer, I gotta show you Ashaf brilliantly beating that fake dragon's ass in a very classy and satisfying way ! :D

It was so not a challenge to him that he managed, mid-fight, to send crows to deliver Guideau's coffin (that lil exchange made me smile a lot xD)

TL;DR let's all agree to stop underestimating Ashaf. x) He's not Guideau's partner just because they randomly met 3 years ago.

5 tips for childcare by Guideau (& a cursed doll statue)

1) Keep them entertained

2) Talk to them

3) Give them a proper bed to use

4) Don’t let them play with knives

5) Don’t let them fall through a window

And as a bonus, most importantly...

...let them get closer to you so that it can release you from your nightmares. :)

Perhaps this is ultimately what Ashaf meant by “I want to teach you what love is”?

TL;DR i’ve had that “nameless seed” forbidden instrument child for only one volume, but if something were to happen to him, i would kill everyone in this series and then myself

......Guideau will say, in the next volume or so, I’m sure. :D

I was reading your post about Dunward and his wife (the witch and the beast), and I got a question from when I read the manga. So this means the body Guideau is trapped in... was the body of Dunward's daughter? I mean, if you take a look a Dunward's wife she kinda looks similar to Guideau... thanks in advance!

Hey Anon! Ah, I think there is a slight misunderstanding. :)

Guideau’s soul is trapped in Angela’s original body (whereas Guideau’s real body is in that coffin) :

As the Eternal Witch, Angela can switch bodies and recreate multiple things and powers. However, only her original body (in which she trapped Guideau’s soul) seems strong enough not to deteriorate.

That’s why she has to change vessels often and that’s why Dornez gave her Dunward’s daughter for her next vessel, thinking maybe a human/vampire hybrid would be a strong enough vessel for Angela’s powers.

Finally, in the current arc, we see Angela using the body of Dunward’s unnamed daughter

…Which means that Dunward has to hurry if he wants to get his daughter back, because the story has yet to answer what happens to the souls of the people becoming Angela’s vessel…

Gotta say it’s *absolutely* refreshing to have a powerful woman as a main antagonist

Be it considering Guideau’s point of view, with their revenge

Or the Executioners’ saying they just want to protect the Holy Church

Or considering the prophecy made by the Three Saints of the same Church

Or Dunward simply trying to get his daughter back.

Don’t get me wrong, I think there’s definitely more to Angela than what the story currently revealed to us [x][x] (first of all, we don’t really know her goal and I despise the Executioners way more than her anyway), but it’s nice how all the different groups so far all have her being a thorn in their side, be it for political or personal reasons. :)

Besides, it’s also used to recontextualize that the plot is actually about more than Guideau’s personal revenge, which is why Sensei constantly expands the worldbuilding and it’s not often the case in manga series, so it’s very cool to read about.

For every new volume I read, I get more and more in awe about this series.

hi how are you are you good today ? In the manga of majo to yajuu i realize they didn't show us the real figure of angela the eternal witch,I mean she is always with new vessel and in the "which and whim" maybe it was another body Angela is in ? so guideau body girl it's the real form of Angela

Hey Anon ! I'm ok, I'm finally on vacations, thanks for asking. :))

Well, from what I recall, Witch and Whim was written before Majo to Yajuu, as a prototype.

When manga series get serialized, they always have a prototype chapter released to see if the content of the manga might interest a large base of readers before they get the green light for more, but that prototype isn't always related to the canon story afterwards.

However, since Satake-sensei included that "Witch and Whim" in one of the official volumes, we're supposed to see it as canon as well.

Additionally, personally, I find similarities between Angela in Witch and Whim and Guideau’s vessel which we know is Angela’s body (though I guess it's not easy when Angela in Witch and Whim was always giggling whereas Guideau is always angry) so in my opinion...

...Angela in Witch and Whim is in her real body, that she'll then trap Guideau into many years later through a curse.

As this point, I could be totally wrong though so we'll have to wait and see !

Hi, can you explain in The Witch and The Beast what Ashaf is referring to when he say's he'd be concerned if Guideau wasnt on the other side of the door? Is he being nice in general as usual towards guideau or is he referencing some event before like what happened with angela?

Hey Anon! Well, I wish I could explain but Ashaf is generally quite elusive on what he says about/to Guideau or why. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Like you, I think his words are likely a reference to when Guideau was indeed tricked by Angela and he ran out from guiding Helga to the Order, only to find Guideau gone.

But as to why he "gets a shiver"/worries about what he would do if Guideau weren't there anymore, I think it's not that he worries about Guideau's safety exactly (we all know how strong Guideau is) and more like Guideau's "too important", for him to get his eyes off of them.

We don't know what, but Ashaf definitely knows something that's extremely relevant about Guideau's origins/curse and thus their role in the plot (here's one possibility)...

...and, in my opinion, it's definitely linked to why he's so determined to teach Guideau "what love is".

I also have this crack theory that Ashaf linked himself to Guideau because he actually knows Angela from a long time ago (and Guideau inhabits her former, original?, vessel), but hey, I could be wrong. Ashaf is definitely the most mysterious character of the series for me: his agenda and agency are unclear on purpose, just like we don't know how powerful he really is.

All that will be answered in due time, I have no doubt, and the moment we find out about Ashaf is probably the moment we'll understand what binds him to Guideau.

Sorry for not being able to answer your question with more certainty for now, but nonetheless hope it helps!

Crazy theory time (About Witch and whim)

So you know how Angela is the witch from the one shot?

Well, first of all, as I was rereading it, I realized that some “forbidden instruments” are remnants from demons and Angela annihilated some of them with magic in the one shot. 

Just saying that it’s interesting how the executioners work with relics from probably this era in the timeline.

Second of all: what if the soldier she met all these years ago and lived with was actually Ashaf?

Think about it:

this one shot starts and ends by someone (unseen) explicitly remembering this tale (“this is a story from my past, about a strange girl I once met”).

the boy conveniently refuses to give Angela (thus us readers) his name. EDIT : oopsie, he does give his name “Caindel”, but if Angela favored him with long life, he could have easily changed his name during his existence

in the present, Angela herself said “I don’t want to see the man [Guideau is] always with” (and Angela liked the soldier from the one shot)

Ashaf would go to extreme measures for Guideau’s sake for a reason we don’t know why yet (could have to do with Guideau’s origins but also with Guideau inhabiting Angela’s previous vessel)

the soldier in the one shot has a physical ailment despite being very strong and, even though, it’s always been after fighting, Ashaf does seem to have a hard time healing even with magic sometimes (see ch42)...

Since the one shot came to be relevant in the current story, then I’d say we can probably expect this interesting young man to make an appearance as well!

Me @ Satake Kousuke and how he adresses gender in Majo to Yajuu: 

First is Guideau and now Oscar. I gotta admit, I’ve been had!!!! ^3^

Oscar, despite having a masculine name, is depicted as rather feminine when we first meet him which entirely shapes our view of him as “being born female” and hardly ever questioning it again before the truth is revealed. Back then I simply thought, “maybe Sensei doesn’t know that Oscar is a masculine name in Western countries”. 

Then Oscar spends the arc changing between pants and dresses, after Count Clensen observes that dresses suit women better when talking to Oscar at the Gala. 

Additionally, there are several scenes where he attempts joking around with Dunward who always so rudely rejects him. When, as a reader, you still think Oscar is a girl, then these scenes just show Dunward as a bully. 

Once it’s revealed that Oscar is a guy and his androgynous appearance is related to having inherited his ancestor’s “style and preferences” though, the explanations behind these banters change, since we know Dunward isn’t as interested in men compared to women. 

Anyhow, it’s very impressive how a first introduction with a braid, a flower and a very cute face where enough to make readers think “oh, cute girl” despite no one using feminine pronouns to refer to Oscar. 

It made a strong impression on me, even more so considering that all the witches we had met so far were women. 

Amazing arc and I usually despise anything Vampire related! I wasn’t expecting such a development either about Dunward’s goal (though, no matter how you look at the issue, he’s a still freaking asshole) and I’m thrilled to think these two will remain in the story for a bit longer! 

Final thought for now goes to Ashaf and Guideau, obviously, as the main duo stealing my breath every damn time with their ambiguous dynamic. 

Yet one more reason to give this series a try!
