Le Toasteur Villeray
I finally feel semi-alive again after the worst cold/flu. I miss the days when I used to get over a bad cold in a few days but now I feel like it takes me weeks! Getting old sucks. But you know what doesn’t suck? Discovering a new brunch spot! A friend and I discovered Le Toasteur a while ago while wandering around her neighbourhood, Villeray, in Montreal. It was around 1pm on a Wednesday and we were still craving brunch so we figured any greasy brunch place would do. I googled “brunch place near Jarry metro”--like I said, we were too hungry to be picky. Guys, this is the one time Google did not let me down. I had never heard of this place before but there’s apparently another one on Laurier. They serve classic brunch fare--eggs benedict, pancakes, crepes and have a few breakfast twists such as the poutine plate, which I plan on trying next time. I ordered the eggs benedict which came with a side of potatoes and fruits. The ham wasn’t too thick (which I was happy about) and the hollandaise sauce was some of the best I’ve tried (I have eggs benedict at almost every brunch place so trust me on this one). The menu varies from 10-15$ which I think is pretty reasonable. While this isn’t a gourmet brunch spot, they do what they do well--hearty, classic breakfast dishes served in a cozy atmosphere. And I’m not gonna lie, those bistro chairs, tin ceiling and chandelier also drew me in.
