Happy Pride Month! This month, let's remember the activists who fought for our rights, and proudly follow their footsteps.
First off is Harvey Milk (1930-1978); the first openly gay politician on the San Fransisco Board of Supervisors in California, who led pride marches, resisted his colleagues and the anti-LGBT organization Save Our Children in his campaigns, and sponsered a bill banning discrimination based on sexual orientation in public accommodations, housing, and employment among other things.
"We don't want sympathetic liberals, we want gays to represent gays... We have to make up for hundreds of years of persecution. We have to give hope to that poor runaway kid from San Antonio. They go to the bars because churches are hostile. They need hope! They need a piece of the pie!"
