D&D last night, woooo!
The highlight if the night was a seriously dangerous mid-boss, but we'll get to that.
We're camping outside an ancient dungeon that was used to lock up a bunch of soldiers of oblivion.
One branch has a huge underground forest, full of twig blights that explode and knock you prone. When prone you're low enough to be breathing in a necromantic mist that grants levels of exhaustion.
So we retreated, set the forest on fire, and went to the last path of the dungeon while the twig blights cooked.
That other side of the dungeon we went into? Had rune traps that would stop you in time for 30 seconds and ask a riddle. Missing a rune meant 2 points. Being touched by the wights in the dungeon meant one point. 5 points meant DM gave you weird options while in the dungeon, ten meant you basically rolled on a random action table until you left.
While ritual casting Detect Magic to spot the runes ahead of time and avoid them, Ranger (Drake Warden) ran ahead, full Leroy Jenkins, to the boss of the section.
Boss had Medusas Gaze type effect. First round save lost your movement, second round made you a statue. This could be avoided by taking disadvantage to attack by not looking at it. Ranger saw a lady in the boss room and got hard. (turned to stone)
Bard failed two saves by the time I got Greater Restoration to the Ranger.
I got the bard up and running and was positioned just in range to counterspell something nasty.
Made my save and was immune to Medusa look. Lucky me. The Bloodhunter was full monster mode with a blindfold on, and the Ranger was back to fighting with disadvantage, Bard was throwing AoE because the boss was extra large and could be fireballed without hitting the party.
I dropped the boss with an upcast Blight. Problem is the Bloodhunters armor is intelligent and she let it take over for bonus damage and to counter the blindfold disadvantage.
Next game we have to deal with the Bloodhunters armor. Last time we ended up beating her until she passed out, let the armor start healing her, and cast sleep on her to force hours of rest. Also we have to deal with the forest fire we started in the other branch of the dungeon.
Game today: our heteroplatonic multiracial polycule’s skeleton pet/son killed the soundcloud rapper we were trying to interrogate, spell guy kept getting 1s on his spells, spell guy and our thief leader got into their 42nd divorce, green feller and neurodivergent skald detonated a c4 bomb, spell guy accidentally started rotting so we gave him the meth we conveniently obtained 2 games ago, and we all almost died, YIPPEE!!!
