What’s the rule?

Rule 1. Each vowel has a LONG sound. 

Rule 2. When a word has two vowels, usually the first one says it's name and the second vowel is silent.

It is very common for students to pronounce both vowel sounds L A K (EY). Remember with teaching the goal is independence. This is done by: Teaching the rule Showing examples and non-examples Practicing until fluent (speed + accuracy) is achieved.

Hey teachers, let’s talk about classroom routines and how often we should practice with students. Short answer: As often as possible •Long answer: Students need frequent exposures and reminders to the classroom routines. This helps students understand what is expected and prepare for the next activity or transition.Think about it, when students go home over the weekend, that is three to four days of a completely different routine. Then, when students come back to school Monday morning, that can be an HUGE transition for many of them (just like it is for us  no one like Mondays lol)•There is so much research that demonstrates the effects of repeating specific skills and how that effects performance and fluency.
