At last, a new addition to the Mud Grave Podfic Anthology! As with all the others, the introduction was custom made for the podfic with added sound effects. So I have literally have all of the free time in the world and have finally accepted obersten's Mud Grave AU that I have refused to read fic for because it will hurt too much because too many of you are too talented for my heart to handle. Ed u should prolly get that eye checked out.

I love the thing that u wrote about the mud grave meeting thing- I just have one question- what is mud grave?? I kinda have an idea but not really sure where it came from???

First off, let me thank so much for reading what I wrote and taking time to tell me you liked it!  Nothing makes me happier than when people like my writing and let me know.  It just really makes me happy. 

Second!  What is Mud Grave.  Aaaaaaah! Mud Grave is a thing that has recently CONSUMED my soul.  It is an AU created by Obersten that combines a bit of Brotherhood and the 03 anime.  Basically, after the Promised Day, when Ed is sent by the Gate to our world.  

In our world, he gets involved in World War One, ends up in the trenches on the German side of things. He’s forced to watch his friends and comrades each lose their lives while there, and it messes him up pretty good. He DOES eventually find a way back home, but even there, things are still rough for him. 

Lolisoup describes it much better here and here.  Also, if you like the AU, there is a ton of stuff in the Mud Grave tag on Tumblr you should check out!  Berg is always giving me ideas on what to write about next, so expect a lot from me, him and Lolisoup.  

I also want to say that Mud Grave has significant meaning to me.  It’s given me a way to express the realities of mental illnesses that I actually suffer from.  It’s given me a way to creatively show others what a flashback is like.  It’s given me a way to show the devastating effects of depression and even the hardships faced by loved ones of a person suffering from these issues.  

My trauma is not the same as Ed’s obviously, as I didn't go through a war, but everything I write about his illness has come from things I have experienced with my own illnesses. His flashbacks and nightmares are directly reflected on my own, as well as some of the ways he reacts to them after the fact.

 It’s become a way for me to make people understand exactly what it feels like to have your world crumble beneath your feet because when I talk about things like this in relation to myself, many people either do not believe me, think I am lying or exaggerating or just cannot comprehend or relate to it.  Showing it through Ed’s eyes allows me to literally SHOW people what it is like to go through these things.  And THAT is why I love Mud Grave so much. That and the fact that Ed is my presh baby, and the story is amazing. And Berg is like... man he’s an amazing guy, for real.  I am very proud that I am able to say that he is my friend.

What's up with the blanket in your last Mud Grave comic? People are talking about it like it's been mentioned before??

Mud grave AU: “what’s this?” Ed asks, and he fingers the immature stitching.

“that’s so no one can take it away from you, uncle Ed! i made it for you and it has your name on it now, it belongs to you. you don’t have to give it back.”

Edward has never had many worldly items to begin with. he lived out of a suit case all the years of his youth. in the trenches, personal items are few and far between. down to the blankets, everything is on a nightly loan.

upon arriving back in Amestris, still confused by the events which brought him home, Ed slips into delusions that he’s still in the war or sometimes, simply, that war time measures are necessary.

Ed is constantly trying to return his sheets, pillows, clothes and blankets after every night. he no longer understands that any of these things belong solely to him. Elicia knows what it’s like to have things taken from her, and it only adds to the very tender feelings of protection she has for Edward. Elicia then decides to take it into her own hands - literally - with the help of Gracia. they fashion Ed a blanket, and Elicia makes sure that Ed’s name is stitched into the edge so it can never be given to someone else or taken away.

when it gets worn with holes and tears, he just asks them to repair it because he could never part with it. when Ed’s in a particularly bad spot, and Elicia or Roy is nearby they will immediately go get it, to wrap him up. it comforts Ed when he feels lonesome or distressed. Elicia likes to drape it over his head like some kind of cloak, she thinks it makes Ed immune to the things he seems to be running from. sometimes he looks as though he’s scared of something she can’t see - something like monsters under the bed, Elicia suspects. at least here, under his blanket, he can hide for a while. he’s safe. Elicia protects him and his dignity with such  subtle things.

Mud Grave Anthology Masterpost

I am finally able to share a really exciting project that I’ve been working on for a while, The Mud Grave Podfic Anthology! I adore obersten‘s Mud Grave universe and it has inspired some stunning fanfiction. I am so thankful to have been given permission to record these wonderful stories. I hope to record many more in future! I also have to thank the incredible obersten who offered to draw cover art for these podfics.
