One quick story from last night's Dia de los Muertos event at the Arc Baldwin Park @bp_artsreccenter The last sale of the evening was this couple who stopped by the table. The guy had recognized El Muerto, and the girl had asked if this had been a movie. Turns out the guy, Miguel, was in the audience at San Diego Comic Con back in 2005 (!) when we had screened the trailer and had a panel with star Wilmer Valderrama and others. It blew me away to hear that. Miguel told me that he was glad back then to see someone from East LA bring this type of Latino character and story to the public. They bought some stickers and went looking around at the other vendors. Then they came back as Sarah wanted to buy the graphic novel. She was going to add it to her collection of signed books by Hilary Clinton and Sonia Sotomayor. Eclectic company to be in, for sure. I told Sarah I'd be happy to sign her book, and unlike Supreme Court Justices or Secretaries of State, I'd do a little drawing in the book, too! 😁 Lots of families that evening, lots of stickers were sold for sure! But like I always say, I'm forever surprised and energized by the encounters I have at every show. You just never anticipate the people you meet or interactions you have. Helen Hernandez and her entire staff at the ARC always put on a very immersive and fantastic event. Hope to be back next year! #elmuerto #muertober #baldwinparkarc #diadelosmuertos https://www.instagram.com/p/B3OXekJh3KD/?igshid=ds49p4893grv
