I want to thank everyone for a wonderful first Muertober!! I wasn’t able to participate much this year, but I appreciated all of the amazing submissions!! You guys make me so happy!
I was a little frazzled this year, so hopefully next year will be a little better organized. We’ll announce it earlier next year, and we’ll have another great set of prompts!!
I’d like to thank @el-coyote-muerte for coming up with the idea, @littlelapdog for naming it, and @mexopolis for bringing an amazing movie into the world. And I’d like to thank all of you who made the first Muertober a success!!
Feliz el Día de los Muertos!!

Muertober Day 17
Day of the Dead-
Happy Dia de los Muertos to all those who celebrate it~
I myself will be watching the Book of Life while eating my Halloween candy.
Whatever you may be doing today, I hope you have fun!
Muertober day 16: Something Book of Life has taught you
It’s not so much the moral of the story that taught me anything, rather something the presentation of the story itself.
So one of the primary complaints about the Story of Book of Life, as far as the Critics were concerned, was that t was formulaic. There were no ‘Unique plot twists’ as the story went on. You knew fro the start that The Tour Guide was going to be La Muerte in Disguise, you knew Manolo was going to sing to the Bull.
Some people would use this as a show that Book of Life is not a ‘quality movie’ but the thing is, what I learned from Book of life is, that it doesn’t have to be.
Book of Life wasn’t trying to blow the socks of watchers, it was trying to be a fairytale. a Story Well Told.
It’s a storyline you can guess from the start, but it’s still wonderful, it’s wonderful because it can focus on other aspects of the story, since the plot is something so inherent.
What Book of Life has taught me s that just because you can guess what’s going to happen in a movie does not make it bad.
Muertober2015: Day 16 - something The Book of life has taught you
“NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER” has become my motto since I saw the movie.
Muertober Day 16
Something the Book of Life taught you-
More than anything, the Book of Life reaffirmed things I already knew, but it also inspired me; this movie was about things we don’t always see, so it was quite a beautiful experience.
I can’t remember the last time a kids movie had a Mexican character as the hero, and here is the Book of Life; taking place in the center or the universe, Mexico. There is a lack of diversity in most main-stream movies, especially in the “English-speaking-world”. This movie pulled no punches, and I loved it.
I saw kids in the theater who enjoyed every moment of the movie, I saw kids in the store asking if they could have it on DVD, and I know many of them are being “taught” something new. The lessons of friendship, love, and being true to yourself in the Book of Life are so important, and any time we are reminded of this is good.
The Book of Life also doesn’t LOOK like any other animated movie; it has such an original style~ I have my own dreams of making movies and cartoon shows, so seeing something like the Book of Life fills me with hope, for myself and other people with similar aspirations.
