My friends neighbor shot her dog, and admitted to doing so to the police, but the police say nothing can be done without proof that it wasn't self defense. The dog is a border collie that herds animals on my friends farm, not a dangerous dog in any way. What can we do?
That is horrible. I’m sorry I have very little knowledge of animal law. Are you in the US? What’s your state? I would definitely contact your local SPCA or perhaps other local animal organizations in your area (people working in animal law?). This is infuriating. I’m so sorry. Can you tell me more about what happened? Shouldn’t you have to prove that it was self-defense, not the other way around? Even if the police are refusing to arrest the person, you should be able to take some form of legal action.
