Agelast for Todoroki and uhhhh someone else. Idk, I just wanna see someone try to make my son laugh
Agelast - A person who never laughs.
Aizawa had just finished up calledhomeroom to an end, bidding them all farewell as he grabbed his sleeping bagthat he seemed to carry everywhere. Immediately after he began to make his wayto the door, the students broke out into different conversations as theyeach prepared for their journeys back home.
Shouto had never really been one tostick around and make conversation. Often, he would slip on his backpack andtoss a quick goodbye to his friends. But today as he looked over to give saidcustomary goodbye, he saw that Midoriya had moved to join a group over by Iida’sdesk. The green haired boy caught his gaze and waved him over with a smile.
It wasn’t uncommon for him, Iida, andUraraka to stick around the classroom, postponing their leave and talking aboutthe day’s lessons. But today it wasn’t just those three; it was a much largergroup. He also noticed Ashido, Asui, Kaminari, and Sero gathered with the otherthree.
Now that he was properly approachingthem he realized…all of the group were staring at him. He didn’t know what tomake of this. “What’s going on?” he wondered, taking in their varyingexpressions. Each seemed to display some kind of eagerness.
“Todoroki-kun”—his heterochromatic eyesglanced at Sero when he spoke; he was trying hard to contain laughter—“What, what did the buffalo say to his son when he left for college?” A buffalo? Hedidn’t have the chance to wonder aloud why a buffalo might go to college. Unless, perhaps he meant someone whose quirk made them—“Bison!”
He could only look on as Sero laughedat his own joke while Ashido and Kaminari wondered if that was the best he had. They would be no help. So Shouto turned to the others, directing his attentiontowards the three he interacted with on a more regular basis. “What’s thisabout?”
“Well, earlier, we realized that we’venever actually heard you laugh. Even though we hang out so much.” Uraraka wasstill sitting at her desk, her hands holding her chin. “So we thought we shouldgive it a shot!”
Midoriya nodded in agreement, grinningup at him as he continued, “But we had a hard time coming up with jokes totell. So we asked them if they wouldn’t mind helping out!” He suddenly wiltedthe slightest bit, wondering, “Is that okay? We’re not keeping you fromanything, right?”
“No, it’s fine.” He sat in Koda’s nowvacant seat, across from the others as he rested his head on his hand. Hecouldn’t pretend to understand why they wanted to try so hard to make himlaugh, but it didn’t bother him to say the least. “So, who’s next?”
To his surprise, Midoriya said that hehad thought of one joke that could maybe do the trick. Shouto waved his freehand as though telling him go right ahead. “W-well—I, I broke my finger lastweek. But, on the other hand, I’m okay!”
Shouto could only look at his righthand in wonder. It didn’t look bandaged. “How did you do that this time?Training again?” Was his “Hand Crusher” spirit coming back to haunt him again…?
He had started to mutter that nothingwas actually broken when Ashido wondered, “Midori, how is that a joke? Youbreak yourself all the time!”
“Sorry, I…! I read it online somewhere—Ithought it would be funny because itwas me saying it…?”
“Midoriya-chan, it’s not funny if it’s about getting hurt.”
Kaminari decided to take theopportunity to throw his joke into the fray. “A bus station is where a busstops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a workstation…”
“Kaminari-kun!” Iida had stood from hisdesk, his hands waving wildly. “I must insist you not joke in regards to yourhomework! It will lower everyone’s opinion of you, if you imply that you don’tdo your work!”
“I don’t hear you tellin’ jokes,Emergency Exit.”
Iida readjusted the glasses on hisnose, giving a light laugh before pointing emphatically to Shouto. “I got in afight one time with a really big guy, and he said, ‘I’m going to mop the floorwith your face!’ I said, ‘You’ll be sorry.’ He said, ‘Oh, yeah? Why?’ I said, ‘Well, you won’t be able to get into the corners very well!’”
Shouto wasn’t sure half of these werejokes. Sero seemed to agree at least in part as he muttered that Iida’s wouldhave been more of a joke if he ended it with recommending Ashido or Midoriya tobe the mop instead because of their hair…while his joke earlier wasn’t funny, hehad a point there.
It went on for quite a while. One “joke”after another, usually followed up by someone else proclaiming that the jokewasn’t that funny. But Shouto couldtell that if they had spent ten minutes telling so many different jokes, itprobably wasn’t happening today. “It was an interesting attempt everyone, but Ishould probably be getting home now.”
“Wait, Todoroki-kun, I—” He glanced backwhen Midoriya had called out to him. “I have one more idea. One moment.” Heturned away, ducking his head down as his hands covered his face for a briefsecond.
Their other classmates wondered aloud ifeverything was alright. If they didn’t know better, they would have thought hestarted crying, the way he was hiding his face from view. But even he had toknow that crying was the opposite of funny.
He gave the tiniest nod. “It’s alrightnow. Because—” He turned around, raising his head, to reveal a very familiarface that certainly should not belongto him—no, that was their teacher’s face, somehow. “I am here!”
The rest of their classmates descendedinto giggles but Midoriya was still looking at Shouto, that far too big of asmile plastered on his face. “Midoriya…” He straightened up in Koda’s seatleaning forward as he mumbled so the other’s wouldn’t hear over their laughter,“So you really are All Might’s—”
The face disappeared, his hands flyingup to hide. “No, Todoroki-kun, I learned how to do this face. I told youthat’s not how it is…!”
