Aliens, Cancer Sucks, & sometimes $ is greater then $$$
This week I was fortunate enough to be on set,, yes I say, YES!!!
I also turned down another job for more money, yup, I did.
So the job I took is a show on H2 called Hangar 1. An alien investigation show based on the real life research from MUFON the "Mutual UFO Network".
Why you may ask, being a "starving artist" CJ, would you turn down a higher $$$ paying job for a way way less $ paying job. Well because,,,,
it's MOTHERF%#KING SWEET ASS ALIEN SHOW!!!
If you know me, you may know I love alien shows, movies, Area 51, the universe, galaxies, Dr Who, Star Trek, and anything else alien you can think of. LOVE IT! So the opportunity to be on one, no matter the caliber I didn't even think twice.
Check out this warehouse for set, seriously, where the ARK.
My MUFON Research work station, complete with artifacts ;)
Also, I have discovered in the last couple years that my grandmother who lives back in Seattle shares a bit of my enthusiasm on the subject. When I come to visit we will turn on the discovery, or history channel and watch alien shows and talk conspiracies, other life in the universe, and visitation/abduction from UFOs and alien life forms. It was a fantastic moment for me and hopefully for her too.
This is probably one of my favorite pics of me and my grandma, as I put my old big beard in her face. :)
So last week, my grandmother called me to let me know that she went to the doctor for a lump in her breast, and she has breast cancer. Cancer Sucks. A few years ago on valentines day my uncle Dennis passed away from cancer, and unrelated to cancer I recently lost my grandfather, and am 100% not emotionally or mentally ready to lose my other grandparent.
Now my Mom and Grandma are both very notorious in my family for not being , well the most positive people. A little grumpy, pessimistic and a we bit of frustration yelling side for no reason from time to time.
So talking to my Grandma and her repeatedly telling me "I'm fine, I'm fine" is kinda relieving. My mom shouted to me through the phone that grandma is "healthy as a horse!" to which I jokingly replied, "yes healthy as a Horse besides the cancer living in her boob." (humor, my defense mechanism when uncomfortable). I do like the positivity though, even through yells. ;)
So being still in the early stages beginning of my acting career, and having not really been in, well anything really, when the opportunity to be seen researching Aliens and UFO's on a show my grandma will actually watch, there was no question. I literally dropped everything and committed.
The crew, location, talent were all been fan-freaking-tastic! Oh not to mention, the actual field researchers from MUFON that I have met and listen to numerous real life stories of UFO's, alien encounters, lots of other unexplained phenomenon.
The experience was amazing, my grandmother will see it, and be able to say thats my grandson, so in short,
Sometimes $ > $ $ $
(my grandma also owns her own bookkeeping service) hah
