French and Malian forces fought running gun battles in a city in northern Mali yesterday, as rebels who were routed by French airstrikes launched their insurgency in earnest.
Residents in Gao reported a series of explosions and bursts of gunfire in what appeared to be a co-ordinated attack on opposite sides of the city. (Read more...)
