     The Doctor beat upon the door to the hatch, pounding his fist, sonic in the other hand as the electrical sparked around him. He’d responded to a distress call made to the TARDIS, an old friend reaching out needing only him. Only The Doctor could do something. Yet, in the moment, he felt utterly powerless. 

The electrical sparked again and the man knew he needed to try a different tactic, his knuckles would be bloody before he even made a dent. Grabbing hold of the sonic firmly he took a step back, pointing it at the pock he pressed the button, listening to the familiar whir of his screwdriver, changing the frequency every few seconds until he heard the click of the lock. As the electrical box exploded behind him he called out “I’m coming, Jack!” Pressing his hands to the door he pushed with all his strength, the door moving slowly, catching on the cracked floor beneath it. 

Once the door was open he stood frozen at the sight before him. His companion ran up behind him, stopping cold at the look on her Doctor’s face. Only one word escaped his lips, the only word that was important. 

“--Ana”
