To Include or not Include?
As many of you know I am a practicing painter. I consider my work in the studio to be central in my life. (My work can be viewed here: http://www.corynneostermann.com)
And as many of you also know, I consider myself a multi-disciplinary artist. I make music with my various band(s), and write lyrics that pertain to my painting work. There is a post-studio performance component to making music, as well, and it is exhibitionistic in a different way than making a highly personal painting. I also consider myself a bit of a theorist and poet. My "sketchbooks" are filled with poetry and notes on ideas as opposed to images and thumbnails of paintings to come. While these interests color the work I make, they are not as central to the paintings I make, however, that does not make them unimportant to my paintings.
My question is: is it wise to include these artist writings and links to music sites with my stuff on them on my artist's website? On the one hand, they help create a three-dimensional example of the multi-disciplinary work that I do, which helps with giving voice to (otherwise) "silent" images. As a con, however, I do not need my work misinterpreted as lacking direction, and I worry that this would be the end result of including this information. I also worry that people will see this as an insistence that the paintings cannot be read without the other work. I make these paintings to stand on their own and the other works I make are supplementary.
Should I include my writings and music--which intersect with my artwork--on my site?
