Eyebrows knitted together as he silently questioned where such a comment had come from, the glass of wine he held being placed back on the desk with a soft sigh. Did he seem more annoyed than normal? If any of them was to be upset over this arrangement then in his opinion that should have been Lucy. She’d more or less be joining the Mafia once everything was made official. She was the one that needed to change her way of life, while all that changed for him was an added piece of paperwork.
“Right...”, gloved fingers wrapped around his glass as he took a small sip of the wine, thinking over what had been said and just why it might be. People could be so complicated. Woman even more so. Was it down to that stereotype of females wishing for some fairy tale ending? For their prince charming to appear to rescue them from a hard life? That certainty couldn’t be used to describe him, that was for sure. In that type of metaphor he’d be more like the dragon imprisoning the Princess. What the heck was he thinking? He glanced down at his half empty glass. He hadn’t had all that much wine at all and yet it seemed as though his thoughts were travelling all over the place tonight.
“So - how do you suggest making this work?”.
