This reminds me of Elizabeth Gilbert’s promise to her art that she would never ask for it to provide for her financially, which I love. It’s also a reminder that it’s okay that my current job is boring and awful, it’s not my passion or my art, it’s just something that pays the bills and let’s me do the things I really want to do.

Seeking Multi-talented Freelancers

Hello hive mind - I'm currently writing my MA thesis on the gig economy and polymathic freelancers in the creative industries. Basically, I'm looking to interview freelancers (ideally London/UK-based) who are multi-talented, and work in a diverse set of creative disciplines... such as a writer/illustrator/animator etc. Perhaps you have had an interesting portfolio career, or you've created a unique job role/business that combines all your skill-set and interests.

A clever photography joke. Yet the more I look at this, the more I realize what an excellent teaching device these images are. This cat’s eyes are doing exactly what a camera lens is designed to mimic. The lower image is also an excellent example of a predator’s telescopic focus. Sometimes I am mocked by others for making such connections. I know better now not to be hurt by such comments. According to Emilie Wapnick, Multipotentialites 🔬 🍜 🌌 🏍️ 📲 📺 📡 🎼 have seven superpowers, i.e. skills that allow them to be more effective in certain situations. Selected three of the most interesting: 🌀 Synthetizing idea: it’s the capacity of bringing seemingly unrelated topics on common ground or overarching thesis. Because of the #eclectic nature of the many interests we have, we can grab different concepts and see what they have in stock more rapidly. 🌀 Fast learning: it’s the capacity to bring new #knowledge in at speed, usually through #SelfLearning. 🌀 Adaptability: it’s the capacity of wearing many hats, we rarely have to seek external help, and they can act in multiple different scenarios.

I don’t quite fall into this category, but I’m pretty close. There’s some stuff on her website (especially this) that really speaks to the thoughts and feelings I’m seeing in myself as I contemplate a career change. It’s kind of validating.
