agh this is so interesting!! see, i mostly focus on azula getting the help she needs, so there's nobody i'd want her to be with during the timeline we get in the show, if that makes sense. and i have some serious issues with her main ships. i'll explain why

tyzula: aesthetically i like it, but i don't know how either of them would be able to recover from the constant manipulation and bullying and scheming and threatening that goes on. both of them have done things to each other that in a romantic context give me the heebies.

maizula: again, aesthetically not bad. this one isn't so bad but there's still that history of azula manipulating her, and i just wouldn't feel comfortable with that. and i'm not saying either of those ships are bad or wrong!! they just personally make me uncomfortable!

but, i think once azula gets help and is on the road to recovery, there's a couple of options that i like.

jinzula: i have to admit, i did not get this one at first. but then i realized- there's no baggage and they'd come into this clean. jin would be her wonderful self and be patient, kind, and try to get azula to have fun, and azula in turn would be so appreciative and probably stumble over herself to be good to her because nobody has ever treated her like this without some kind of alterior motive. i think it would be so sweet.

tophzula: okay listen i didn't actually ship this until i made that post about road to redemption azula becoming friends with toph, and mostly i just liked the joke of toph getting with zuko's "crazy" sister bc that's hilarious. but! upon further contemplation, i actually like it a lot. i think toph is the most emotionally intelligent twelve year old I've ever seen, and that would translate into an incredibly emotionally mature teen or adult. i think she'd see azula trying to get better and offer her a hand, and wouldn't treat her differently- beyond being careful not to let the teasing and jokes cross any boundaries. azula would think she's so strange, being nobility but acting like that, but she'd look at that freedom and really admire it. she may have to get used to toph, but they'd understand each other in that they were both being strangled by the expectations of their parents/fathers. toph would like that even though she's royalty she's not some ditsy princess. azula would like that toph treats her like a person instead of a threat, and would think her abilities are sick as fuck. i just think it's so fun, and i really want to explore this more because typing this out really got the gears turnin'. plus toph hooked up with zuko's crazy sister. that's so fucking funny bye.

zukka: i want you to take one singular look around my blog. i just- urgh. there's so much to say about them. i got into them right at the height of the atla revival and i've just been hooked. they have complimentary senses of humor, they've both got that self-sacrificial sense of duty and responsibility, they can understand eachother on a mental and emotional level better than anyone else can, and they have so much potential to grow with each other and just. the parallels. and them and them as parents together got me through my hardest days in the past year because they just love each other and their family so fucking much and- i need to stop before this post gets two miles long but just know i could go on forever.

jetko: they take a backseat to zukka but i do think they would work, for a lot of the same reasons zukka does. they are both incredibly passionate, heart-led leaders and even if they have a metric fuck ton of baggage to work through together, the cinema of them being able to mend their relationship back from the episode in ba sing se...wow. they both have that one-track-mind style of operation that begins and ends with the love they have for the people they care about and i think that's neato.

maiko: this but essentially only for what we see of them in canon. it's a very sweet teen romance all things considered, but i don't love the idea of that being endgame for either of them, considering how they came together in the first place. good for the moment and as a vehicle for their development (and some relationships are meant just for that and that's fine)

mai? ❤

may: i just think mai and i would have a lovely relationship. i could watch her throw her knives and we could listen to shitty emo music together and- i'm totally kidding (but am i?) but seriously

mailee: just. duh. it's about the way they're opposites but it goes deeper than the goth gf x pink gf dynamic. aesthetically, they are divine. but my favorite thing about them is that they have such different but complimentary responses to their similar traumas-- ty lee gets to express every emotion while mai expresses none, and they both step in to protect each other from azula in really subtle ways. they're there for each other first and foremost, and the betrayal at boiling rock is evidence of that. i genuinely gasped out loud, because by god they fucking put that act of devotion on display for all to see. yes, ty lee was also protecting azula from herself, but the way they are there for each other throughout their run on the show makes my heart happy. i like that they're both fucking terrifying in different ways and they compliment each other like puzzle pieces and this really isn't articulated very well at all but you know what i mean

maiki: liiisten. this one's pretty rare but i like it. so. much. grace i think u were the one who put me on or rbd an art about them but. they're just such a calm, quietly powerful pair and i think suki would see really well through mai's exterior and get her to open up a bit, and mai would have an appreciation for suki's devotion to the warriors and her connection to her "family" in the warriors and a cause she really believes in. it's almost like if you toned mailee down a couple notches and removed all of the baggage. idk. it's nice. plus i started a mailee fic a while back that was supposed to have maiki as a stepping stone but i realized while writing it that it just works somehow.

maiko: as i said in my post for zuko, i like it for what it is when it is and not much more.

hehehehe i am about to cause so many problems

bakoda: i mean. do i really need to explain? i will anyway. i am a sucker for mature queer romances full stop. but there's the shared trauma, the brothers in arms, the partners in grief, the childhood friends, the lean-on-me of it all. the way bato stepped in when kya died, the love they share for hakoda's kids, the sense of duty they share to the tribe. the height difference. the way bato talks about koda. amazing. just love it.

hakya: i just think that the way sokka and katara love speaks volumes to how hakya loved them and each other. there's not much to say beyond that because there's not much to know, but i can feel that they were one for the ages.

bakodya: combine the above and add the dynamic of the three of them all parenting sokka and katara and living and loving together and my heart goes awooga.

chitkoda: @chitsangenthusiast is a menace so now i'm stuck with this bullshit ship. but really there's so much opportunity for them to bond post-boiling rock and we know chit sang isn't a bad guy. i think they'd joke around but ultimately make protecting the kids a priority, and hakoda would look at chit sang taking on this duty when he has every opportunity to book it to freedom and just have a huh. moment. plus they're very handsome. and hakoda deserves a dumb boyfriend. and chit sang deserves a dilf boyfriend. nuff said.

chitbakoda: listen. take established bakoda, add hakoda getting a crush on chit sang, BUT THEN have bato meet this absolute meat head and learn that he's fucking hilarious and also cares about hakoda's kids and shawamee. you got a cursed throuple and i hate that i'm typing this. it's all kath's fault.

taykoda: i am once again asking to be with him. i love him and his tits. get out of my face.

bestie you know me. you know i'm not gonna shut the fuck up about this.

zukka: i've said it a thousand times and i'll say it a million more. they are everything. i like how they're both just some guy to each other. they're not destined to be together, there's no spiritual grand plan. they're just guys being dudes being in love. they bicker, and they fight, and they make fun of each other, and they laugh, and they stand up for eachother, and they a both fiercely protective of the things that matter to them and would go to the ends of the earth for each other because that's who they are. is it the healthiest relationship? probably not, they're both traumatized in parallel and they've got a million mistakes to make, but they work. nour you of all people know how interesting they are and how well they go together. i love them. also the nd4nd excellence.

sukka: best canon ship full stop. i like how sokka is forced to grow up because suki is already so confident and self-assured. they're very incredibly sweet together and i love the way they remind me of college sweethearts who everyone guessed would last by their first anniversary. jock4nerd, gnc couple ftw. i just. love it. couple goals. suki tops. bye

yuekka: it's beautiful for what it is when it is. i think yue being a long term thing for sokka would have been not awesome for sokka's development in other aspects of his character, but what a beautiful, sweet, adorable first love for them. my personal favorite yue lives! scenario is them being together for a hot minute and then ultimately deciding now isn't the time and just being friends, but i think it's lovely that they both had that puppy love experience <3

sokka x ty lee: BUT only as a short term thing. just for laughs mostly but i think their intellectual capabilities masked by exaggerated projections of masculinity and femininity respectively put together would be interesting. but ultimately yeah it wouldn't last. but i think they're probably good friends!!!

tayki: i am once again asking for suki's hand in marriage

sukka: i just talked about them in my sokka post but i like them so so so much.

yueki: i don't really seek anything out about them but i think it would just be freaking loverly. yue coming from a high society, likely pretty isolated, controlled background and meeting suki, this girl who's tough as nails but sweeter than sugar and regularly expertly protects her friends and her family-- wow. they've both got intensely strong dedication to duty and their culture, and they'd really respect that about each other. i just imagine the sweetest lil couple and they're the endlessly generous and kind couple that their friends know they can always come to and just <3 plus i think it's funny that they'd say fuck sokka lives and just kiss each other (/j)
