A cascade of beautiful evergreen leaves is formed by this Heptapleurum taiwanianum (Taiwanese schefflera). This striking plants can form a single-stemmed, small tree, or a multi-stemmed shrub. Young plants need to be kept frost-free, but will survive outdoors once over 1m or so, if sheltered from cold, drying winds with a well-drained soil in sun or semi-shade.

This is a young plant of Parrotia persica (Persian ironwood, iron tree, ironwood) which becomes a wide-spreading, normally multi-stemmed deciduous tree or large shrub. In autumn the leaves turn yellow, red and purple falling to reveal the trunks of flaking bark and small crimson flowers on bare twigs.
