I only noticed TODAY that I drew their frowns the same way here (didn't reference from either drawing, these were made individually without influence from the other, that's just consistency)

Giving you Dawn!AU rambles that are a little less vague as a treat:

The way that Darkwing’s opinion of Negs shifts over time is interesting to me.

When they first meet, and for the first several years they’d known each other, their dynamic is basically just a direct mirror of how it is in canon more or less. (with a little more depth I guess?) DW absolutely despises Negs and doesn’t particularly show a lot of compassion for him early on because he thinks he’s a pest. He’s disgusted with a person who’s gleefully the antithesis of everything he stands for, he finds Negs’ complete lack of regard for anyone around him DETESTABLE, he genuinely cannot stand this guy. He hates him.

However, it’s after DW character arcs his way out of some of his grievances with himself that he starts seeing Negs differently. He starts noticing things he didn’t before and things that just seemed like “annoying personality traits“ now just read as symptoms of a larger issue that nobody else can seem to see about this guy, and it’s after that point that Drake starts shifting into that “concerned older brother” behavior I’ve described him having. From henceforth the narrative becomes a lot of Drake losing sleep at night worrying about this guy who he previously hated because he feels responsible for stopping him from ruining his own life. 🙃

I know this is more than I tend to explain about them but I realize that I’ve basically already given a roadmap of how DW progresses here somewhat and I figured it couldn’t hurt to elaborate on some things idk. It’s probably been odd to see him sometimes wishing ill upon Negs, and then sometimes looking at him like “🥺” but you have to understand that this story spans a few in universe years and Drake just sorta mellows out the more that he develops he gets nicer in general and that includes to his brother. (for better or worse-)

This is not a canon scene, it crawled out of my brain, because I needed to preoccupy my mind, so I just started writing things. Made this up on the fly, idk.

(Negs is projecting so hard right now, it's not even funny, I feel like this says a lot about him. Accidental perfect glimpse into his brain. I could explain, but I think I'll let it speak for itself.)
