Lara was not the only one in her field with an interest in ancient history - certainly it would seem a prerequisite for the study of archaeology. It was the customs surrounding death that held her curiosity, whether the open air funeral pyres of India to the basic coffin structures of the Neanderthals. Perhaps she had found her niche after all. It was Ancient Egypt that fascinated her most of all - so much of their lives seemed influenced by the mortality of their bodies and the wish to be granted a comfortable afterlife.
Lara was over a century too late to see anything more than a tourist friendly Egypt, relics plundered by her occupational ancestors but at least she has the books left behind. Her studies had stretched long into the night, the university library almost entirely vacant as she landed a hieroglyph portrait of the jackal-headed God of the Dead.
