Mun has had a craptastic week filled with car trouble, fall on ice related injury, and just general “bleh.” Back to it soon. Got something planed you’re going to love and hate all at once. Hehehehe!

What is the ‘Bard AU’?

There’s a good chance you haven’t noticed my tag “Bard AU” (because I’m under no delusions anyone actually notices anything I do, lol) but if you have you might be wondering what in the shitting hell it means, since there’s fuck all in the tag aside from pictures of... deer?

So here’s a story.

Once upon a time, a young mun!Rask went to a Rennaisance Faire and found it to be the most magical thing, like, evar.  Several years later she began playing WoW, and made her character Rask, and around the same time she went back to that magical Ren Faire and liked it so much she decided it should be a tradition, and also decided that she wanted to dress up as Rask.

At first, she did not succeed.  At fucking all.  Lightdamn. (I’m in the middle... enjoy the goth boots and pillowcase tunic)

She even roped her friends into it, as you can see.  Including her friend from a long way away (on the right) who will be very important to this tale.

Thankfully, over time she accumulated more and more pieces to add to her outfit so it wasn’t such a horrible mess.

She even attempted to sew a tabard, and was proud of it at the time, and had lots of fun.

Then she moved to where that friend I pointed out before (in the blue) lived, and top priority was finding a Faire in her new home.  Which she did.  And then she learned how to sew!  Which was great because that tabard was a hot mess and really, we all know Rask’s color is brown, not black.

Very quickly, she and her friend were invited to join a non-profit group whose job it was to add flavor and fun for kiddos at the local faires.  This group was (still is) called “Court of the Elven Fae”, and at first having Rask in such a group seemed an odd fit, as he is and was solidly human.

So she and her friend came up with a solution.  Rask would be a human who had unwittingly found himself in a faerie hill and, as Rask does, had gotten himself into no small amount of trouble-- with the Unseelie Queen, no less.  Long story (that I will write at some point) short, he ended up sentenced to serving his time (about 100 years) under the less-than-willing Bard, the faction-neutral paragon of song, who is not a faerie but a true fae creature.  The Bard has antlers and continuously shifting animal elements, and is played by mun!Rask’s lovely friend.  Who she is also now married to.   P-p-p-plot twist!  Also they’re on tumblr @fortherisingsun

So, the Bard AU is about this Rask, who is caught up performing with The Bard and giving them a lot of grief, trying (and failing) not to make such an ass of himself that the faeries of the Court cover him in bells, and in the meantime telling children riddles and warning them about the tricksy faeries.

And there you have it-- that’s why the Bard AU tag is what it is and why it’s full of antlers and faeries.  Someday it will also be full of the story of this AU.
